In line with the implementation of Macao youth policy and to deepen the cultivation of patriotism among university students, the Student Affairs Office and the Faculty of Languages and Translation of Macao Polytechnic University recently organised the "Creating the Future - Visit to Greater Bay Area Enterprises and Culture (Shenzhen)" activity. Around thirty undergraduate students participated in the visit to the China Media Group (CMG) Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Centre and institutions under the jurisdiction of the Qianhai Administrative Bureau of Shenzhen. The aim of the activity was to provide more development opportunities and platforms to the students, help the students to better integrate into the overall national development, understand Shenzhen’s achievements of reform and opening up in the past forty years, and deepen their national education.

The group first visited the CMG Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Centre, where programs such as "Voice of the Greater Bay Area" are produced and new media content is created. The centre plays a crucial role in broadcasting, television news gathering and new media platforms, and serves as a production base for the Asia-Pacific Centre. The centre also serves as an important information dissemination platform for the development of the Greater Bay Area. During the visit, the staff of the centre provided a detailed introduction about the programs’ production process and the bilingual program, especially featuring Macao. The students also had the opportunity to use professional equipment to record multilingual voice-overs, trying the role of voice actors. Afterwards, the group visited the Qianhai Exhibition Hall and the Qianhai International Conference Centre. Through a comparison of historical and current pictures, the students deeply experienced the transformation of Shenzhen, which is the epitome of the achievements of China's reform and opening up in the past 40 years.

According to the students, this visit to the CMG was an unforgettable experience. They gained a deep understanding of the hard work of the teams behind the excellent television programs. From planning, interviewing, and production to broadcasting, it is the result of the efforts of media professionals. The importance of translation and cross-cultural communication in telling China's stories and spreading China's voice should not be overlooked. The translation programs provided by the Faculty of Languages and Translation undoubtedly lay a solid foundation for students' future work in related fields. At the same time, witnessing the rapid changes in Shenzhen during the visit, students learnt about the important role of Shenzhen as a pioneer and demonstration city. They were proud of Shenzhen's rise on the global stage and experienced the city's proactive efforts in economic development, technological innovation and urban governance. As members of the younger generation, the students hope to find opportunities and achieve their dreams in this vibrant and innovative environment.
