Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence
The “Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence” (hereinafter referred to as the “CAI”) was inaugurated at the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) on December 26, 2019. The ceremony was officiated by Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education and Director of the State Language Commission; Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government; Luo Yonggang, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Liu Jin, Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education; Sou Chio Fai, Director of the Higher Education Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and Im Sio Kei, Rector of Macao Polytechnic University. The successful establishment fully of CAI demonstrates the great support of the chinese government, and also shows the Nation's strong support for Macao's participation in creating an International Science and Technology Innovation Centre in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area.
MPU has developed the world's most accurate Chinese-Portuguese Neural Network Machine Translation Platform and the Chinese-Portuguese-English Voice Recognition Simultaneous Interpretation System, established the largest and most accurate Chinese-Portuguese parallel corpus, and launched a series of research products that have been widely used by many government departments in Macao and by countries of the “Belt and Road” initiative. Based on this, the CAI will respond to the Nation's encouragement to higher education institutions in Macao in terms of obtaining more technological achievements, contribute to the construction of the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area, focus on building a “Belt and Road” language database, and apply the successful experience accumulated in developing the "Chinese-Portuguese-English Machine Translation Platform" to the development of machine translation system for the languages of the “Belt and Road” countries, including Italian, so as to provide assurance for the language exchange in the construction of the “Belt and Road”.
The CAI combines the practical experience from Macao's economic construction, social development, Chinese and Western culture exchange platform, urban management and tourism service industry to carry out comprehensive researches on innovation and application, and develop machine translation products and services of artificial intelligence with independent intellectual property rights and key technologies. In the process of application development, engineering research and comprehensive researches on innovation and application, the CAI will raise new scientific and technical questions, conduct interdisciplinary cooperation, and achieve breakthroughs in core key technologies, forming a pattern of mutual promotion and coordinated development between the CAI and the Macao SAR Government, the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area, the Portuguese-speaking countries and the “Belt and Road” countries.
With the goal of building a base of innovation and application and of talent training within the area of machine translation and artificial intelligence, the CAI aims to serve as a window for international exchange and cooperation in the scope of machine translation and artificial intelligence through extensive exchanges and cooperation with famous higher education institutions, enterprises and research institutions in China and abroad, and to contribute to the development and construction of the relevant fields in Macao, in the Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area, in Portuguese-speaking countries and in the "Belt and Road" countries.
