MPI Students Learn about the Silk Road at Lanzhou

MPI students participated in the “Cultural Heritage Friendly Action Camp” organised by Lanzhou University

Upon the invitation of Lanzhou University (LZU), students of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) recently participated in the "Cultural Heritage Friendly Action Camp" organised by Lanzhou University to learn about the traditional culture and history of China through travelling to various cities and scenic spots along the Silk Road.  This activity is one of the events of the “Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China Teachers and Students Exchange Scheme (Ten Thousand People's Scheme)”.  Eight students from different programmes visited Xining, Zhangye, Dunhuang, Linxia, Tianshui and Jiayuguan, as well as various world heritage sites and key cultural heritage units. Every participant really benefited from this trip.

Ms. Wong, a student of the Nursing Programme, said that she was impressed by the culture of Lanzhou, and she admired the wisdom of the ancients and the beauty of Chinese culture through traditional techniques such as "Butter Sculpture", "Mural" and "Barbola".  She also marvelled at the rapid development of the cities in northwest China and hoped that Macao could learn from this development direction in the future. Ms. Tong, a student of the International Chinese Language Education Programme, said that apart from visiting cultural heritage sites, she also benefited from the various activities arranged by LZU, such as debating competitions and drama performances, which gave her an opportunity to engage with students from various universities in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, and gained valuable memories.
