In order to strengthen the sense of national security, promote the traditional values of love for the motherland and Macao, enhance the sense of patriotism and actively support the Macao SAR’s work on national security education, Ng Ka Kei, Chairperson of the Student Union of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), and Wong U Kei, Chairperson of the MPI Alumni Association, together with several other key members, attended the National Security Education Exhibition at the Sino-Lusophone Business Cooperation Service Platform Complex on 14th May. Participating students and alumni stated that national security was closely related to regional safety as well as our daily life, and they were proud of China’s prosperity.

Ms Ng said that the visit allowed students to understand the meaning of national security from different angles and to understand the tight relationship between national security and oneself. She added that in reality, there were always risk factors that could jeopardize national security, which was the reason why people must constantly stay alert. Being the future masters, youngsters must continuously improve their capacity to defend national security, and take responsibility for defense and resolving any risk factors and actual hazards.

Mr Wong stated that the defense of national security was not only very important for the long-term development of the country, but was also a key prerequisite for safeguarding citizens’ rights and prosperity. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the world is suffering from various impacts, and as such China has appropriately adjusted its policies to face these new challenges. China has also shown its dedication and effort to protect the rights and interests of the people. All these are proof of the success of the joint effort between citizens and the government against the pandemic. It also manifests the spirit of “A stable country brings prosperity and security” and “A united heart brings success”.

Mr Zhang Boliang, Chairman of the MPI Mainland Student Union, and Executive Vice Chairman of the Association of Higher Education Students from Mainland China in Macao, stated that we were undergoing unprecedented changes now and national security has become a significant issue for everyone. Only by adhering to and implementing the holistic approach to national security suggested by Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China,  with the aim of safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, security and development interests, insisting on the overall planning for development and security, planning for both traditional and non-traditional approaches, could we achieve a full revival for China, as well as to ensure Macao’s  “One Country Two Systems” policy would be steady and far-reaching.  As young students, we should be nourished from history, think about the direction from practice, adhere to the holistic approach to national security, and build a general security pattern.  Finally, he encouraged all youngsters to cherish one’s youth and to walk hand-in-hand with the motherland.
