MPI awards scholarships to 600 outstanding students

The Macao Polytechnic Institute 2020 Open Day and Scholarship Award Ceremony was held successfully on December 5, awarding scholarships to 600 outstanding students in order to recognise their excellent performance in different fields in the past year and encourage them to keep improving and forge ahead in their studies, so as to cultivate young talents with innovative and creative ability, international vision and competitiveness, and to contribute to the development of Macao, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the motherland.

In his speech, Prof. Im Sio Kei, President of MPI, stated that the Macao Polytechnic Institute has always ensured the standard quality of teaching and learning and implemented student-centred teaching and quality-based management philosophy. Most of the academic programmes in MPI have now obtained programme reviews and professional certifications by internationally authoritative accreditation agencies. With high-quality teaching standards, MPI has trained more than 20,000 graduates, which has enriched the talent pool for the construction of Macao and the motherland. He congratulated the award-winning students and appreciated the support and trust of the scholarship sponsoring organisations and individuals. He also encouraged students to study hard, forge ahead, hold steadfastly to their love for China and to become professionals with an international vision and strong sense of social responsibility.

Ms Wong, student who majoring in Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpretation, was awarded the Macao Foundation Scholarship for Outstanding Current Students. Wong, who had broaden her horizons with international exchange to Portugal, thought that the teaching resources in MPI are sufficient to meet the needs of students and give them great academic support. After her graduation in upcoming year, she will pursue further study and strive to equip herself to prepare for the opportunities of the Greater Bay Area. Ms Xiong, student majoring in Visual Art, won the Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement. She said that scholarship is a kind of affirmation, encouragement and motivation. In the past year, she not only learned professional knowledge in class but also improved her leadership and communication skills through participating in extracurricular activities organised by the Institute. In the future, she will make persistent efforts in her studies, focus on developing comprehensive ability and try her best to contribute to society after graduation.

Numerous  government departments, institutions and individuals who sponsored the scholarships attended the ceremony and presented the awards to the outstanding students.
