To strengthen the connection between higher education institutions in Guangdong province and Macao and promote cooperation to improve education quality in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has become the first higher education institution in Hong Kong and Macao to sign the agreement of “Campus Project of GBA” with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). The representatives of the Ministry of Education and universities’ leaders also met to discuss the implementation of the project, which encourages student exchange, credit recognition and transfer, as well as the sharing of teaching resources. The establishment of the collaborative education system aims to cultivate professional and practical talents for the development of the GBA.

The forum of the “Campus Project of GBA” was held on January 5 at the GDUFS. The attendants included representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R., Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Lingnan University, Macao Polytechnic Institute, University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. At the forum, the representatives had an in-depth discussion on the cooperation and development of the Project, the promotion of interaction between students and scholars, and collaboration of the programmes and research in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao. After the forum, three groups of discussions took place simultaneously on topics related to education in the GBA, such as the specific implementation of mobility learning, programme recognitions and student exchange.

The MPI representative pointed out in his speech at the forum that MPI’s commitment to the development of higher education in Macao and to the cooperation between the mainland China and Macao SAR since its establishment is recognised both nationally and internationally. The “Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence, Ministry of Education” that was unveiled last month is the first Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education opened in Hong Kong and Macao, which fully demonstrates the Ministry of Education’s affirmation and support to MPI. After the launch of the Campus Project, MPI will substantially implement the instruction of President Xi Jinping to devote itself to the construction of the GBA by integrating resources, taking advantages of its unique strengths, striving to innovate, making the Project become an important opportunity for in-depth cooperation with all higher institutions within the area.

Starting from 2020, MPI will start a new chapter based on years of successful experience in schooling, education and research. By seizing the opportunities from the major development strategies and policies of the country, MPI will actively integrate into the development of the GBA and strengthen the cooperation within the area, so as to contribute to the cultivation of outstanding professionals.
