Pooling strengths to contribute to society
1st MPI Alumni Day: A Huge Success

In order to reunite Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) past graduates to enable them to reminisce about college life, and to learn more about MPI’s achievements, the “1st MPI Alumni Day” was held in MPI on June 27 (Saturday). The event attracted hundreds of alumni from both home and overseas to gather at MPI. The Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association (MPIAA) gladly contributed to society by donating all profits received to Orbis to help save the sight of people worldwide.

The opening ceremony of the “1st MPI Alumni Day” took place in the MPI Auditorium. The guests officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Guo Jianbin, representative of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI, Ms. Hong Lai Kei, Vice president of the Macau Nursing Staff Association, Mr. Che Fok Sang, Director of Dream Project Association, and Mr. Ku Man Tat and Mr. Wong U Kei, Chairman and President of MPIAA respectively.

Reviewing MPI’s development, Professor Lei encouraged alumni to successively maintain the MPI spirit to strive for advancement, and to work together to exhibit MPI features. Mr. Ku noted that the MPIAA was founded 16 years ago and has received constant support and encouragement from MPI. He expressed the hope that the Alumni Day would be held annually upon the foundation of the 1st Alumni Day, so that it could grow to be a festival of MPI alumni. Moreover he encouraged both new and old alumni to gather at their Alma Mater and to keep in touch. He also remarked that the shortness of memories is what forms a lasting legacy, reciting the following: “Never stopping is time, Still I hold dear classmates of mine; for such memories allow transcending times past to now.” MPIAA is the symbol of alumni’s friendship and achievements and shall be passed on continuously.

Mr. Wong pointed out that the event aimed to bring together alumni from different classes  to reminisce  about college life and to learn about the latest developments at MPI. He indicated that the success of the event not only relied on the organisational efforts of the MPIAA members, but also on the tremendous support from MPI and other sectors of society. He said he hoped to collaborate with alumni to enhance the development of MPIAA, and to concentrate efforts to promote the MPI spirit.

Alumni who participated in the MPI Alumni Day said that the event gave them a chance to understand MPI’s development, and that by wearing the graduation gown they had been able to taste their graduation happiness once again. Looking back on their college lives alumni could revisit their memories via a rich variety of activities provided by MPIAA, including “Your MPI Journey Photo Exhibition”, “Your MPI Graduation”, “Fun Concert”, accommodation activity “Your MPI Dream Home” and sports games.

The event attracted hundreds of alumni from different places such as Macao, Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, and Australia to unite at MPI and enjoy this special occasion. The MPI Alumni Day was organised by the MPIAA, co-organised by MPI with full support from the Dream Project Association, and on-site emergency services were provided by the Macau Nursing Staff Association. In order to encourage alumni to contribute to the society all profits from the event were donated to Orbis to save the sight of people worldwide.
