MPU Holds Sino-Portuguese Cultural Festival to play its role as Sino-Portuguese Co-operation Platform
Marking the 20th anniversary of the Forum Macao, which serves as a platform for Sino-Portuguese cooperation, in 2023 Macao Polytechnic University Student Affairs Office organised the 2nd Sino-Portuguese Cultural Festival with the theme of "Heritage and Blossom." The festival aimed to present the traditional cultures of China and Portuguese-speaking countries, highlighting the cultural fusion that takes place in Macao. The festival showcased the charm of Sino-Portuguese culture, emphasising the importance of cultural heritage and development on the campus.
The Sino-Portuguese Cultural Festival included various activities, such as the Sino-Portuguese carnival, Portuguese tile-making workshops, Portuguese folk dance performances, Cantonese opera experiences, and others. The Sino-Portuguese carnival immersed students in an atmosphere of cultural fusion, allowing them to experience the blending of different cultures. Chinese students performed Portuguese folk dances in traditional Portuguese costumes, while students from Portuguese-speaking countries showcased Chinese traditional fan dances in Hanfu attire. There was also a performance of guzheng duets by Chinese students. After the spectacular performances, the carnival featured traditional game booths and a variety of Sino-Portuguese culinary delights. The campus was filled with a lively and joyful atmosphere, leaving students with beautiful memories.
Students who participated in the event said that the Sino-Portuguese Cultural Festival held significant meaning in terms of cultural exchange. It provided them with a platform to deepen their understanding of the culture, traditions and history of both China and Portuguese-speaking countries. Through various exchange activities and immersive experiences, the festival broadened their international perspectives, fostered cross-cultural communication and enriched their learning experiences.
