Centre for Portuguese Studies was established on 6 November 2012. The main tasks of the centre are:
- Promote the study and research of Portuguese and Portuguese-speaking countries' culture;
- Provide Portuguese language training, especially teacher training;
- Strengthen cultural exchanges with Portuguese-speaking countries through different channels;
- Promote the publication of academic books related to the above fields.
Since its establishment, the centre has been committed to promoting the Portuguese language and culture, carrying out Portuguese language teacher training, and taking advantage of Macao as a "Sino-Portuguese platform" and "Sino-Portuguese bilingual talent training base" to promote Macao and develop Portuguese teaching together with Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as well as China regions, actively strives to train more and more high-end Chinese and Portuguese bilingual talents for the “Belt and Road”. In addition, the centre continues to deepen research in the field of Portuguese language teaching, held many international academic seminars, academic lectures, etc., and published more than thirty Portuguese language textbooks and academic monographs.
