MPU Organises Crime Prevention Seminar during Orientation on Preventing Telecommunications and Online Fraud

Macao Polytechnic University organises a crime prevention seminar for new students on preventing telecommunications and online fraud as part of the orientation activities

To strengthen campus fraud prevention education and enhance students’ awareness of fraud, Macao Polytechnic University, during the new academic year orientation activities, invited representatives from the Macao Judiciary Police to deliver a seminar on preventing telecommunications and online fraud in order to educate 2,200 new students. By analysing real cases, the seminar aimed to deepen students’ understanding of telecommunications and online fraud, comprehend the methods used by fraudsters and the reasons victims fall prey to scams, enhance fraud prevention capabilities, and safeguard property security.

During the seminar, representatives from the Judiciary Police introduced common methods of online and phone fraud to the new students at Macao Polytechnic University, including impersonation of government departments or judicial entities, identity scams, online romance scams, and click-farming scams. They also explained the reasons why victims fall prey to scams and provided students with practical fraud prevention tips and methods. The Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic University aims to raise students’ awareness of fraud crimes through the seminar and collaborates with the police to boost fraud prevention consciousness.
