The Macao Polytechnic Institute will be renamed as the Macao Polytechnic University from 1st March 2022

The Executive Council has concluded the discussion of the draft administrative regulation “Revision of the Administrative Regulation No. 28/2019 on the Macao Polytechnic Institute Charter”.

In order to implement the focus of “strengthening the educational, youth, cultural and sports work and perfecting the talent introduction system” laid out in the 2022 Policy Address, and as an implementation of the governing philosophy of “developing Macao by education and talents”, the SAR Government has revised the administrative regulation No.28/2019 on the Macao Polytechnic Institute Charter, renaming the Macao Polytechnic Institute as the Macao Polytechnic University, renaming the former higher-education schools as faculties, of which the School of Arts is renamed as the Faculty of Arts and Design. In addition, according to the stipulation of the Administrative Regulation No. 6/1999 “The Organisation, Authority and Operation of the Government Sectors and Entities”, it is clarified that the Macao Polytechnic University is under the supervision of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture.

Following the renaming of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the Macao Polytechnic University will continue to stimulate the innovation and development of higher education and strengthen the transformation of industry-university-research achievements, promoting the marketization and high-quality development of higher education in Macao. In the future, the Macao Polytechnic University will meet the demand for Macao’s social and economic development and build on the strengths of the existing computer application disciplines, gradually adding science and engineering courses in the fields such as applied mathematics, artificial intelligence and digital media application technology and so on. In addition, language related teaching and research will be strengthened, assisting Macao to function effectively as the Sino-Portuguese platform.

The Administrative Regulation shall take effect on 1st March 2022.
