MPI Students Gather to Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

MPI students gather to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

At the beginning of the Autumn semester,  Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI)  organised Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations to promote  traditional Chinese festival culture, enrich students’ campus life and enhance friendships among peers. MPI students gathered to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Also, MPI students were encouraged to send greetings to their elders and families on this festival of the full moon.

The Student Affairs Office of MPI prepared Mid-Autumn festival treats and colorful lanterns for students. Under a relaxing and joyful atmosphere, MPI students from different provinces in China discussed the cultural heritage and contemporary value of traditional Chinese festivals, and shared the customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival from their hometowns. MPI students agreed that the Mid-Autumn Festival conveys the traditional and excellent Chinese philosophy of "reunion", "gratefulness" and "harmony". A freshman, surnamed Sang majoring in E-commerce said that after she came to Macao, this was her first time to participate in any campus activities. She enjoyed the warm feeling of the MPI family and it was nice to meet students from different programmes. The first festival that Sang spent in Macao was unforgettable and helped her to overcome her homesickness. Furthermore, a doctoral student surnamed Gao, majoring in Computer Applied Technology, shared that every household in Yunnan would make big moon cakes, and invite relatives and friends to enjoy the moon together and that some ethnic minorities would hold floating river lanterns activities. Gao said that Macao was full of the atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and she was impressed by the various flavors of Cantonese-style mooncakes.

The Macao Polytechnic Institute is committed to cultivating students’ sense of patriotism, and enhancing students’ understanding and inheritance of Chinese history and culture through organising diversified campus activities. During important traditional Chinese festivals in particular, MPI will gather students together for celebrations to close the distance between teachers and students, and to spread the spirit of caring, inclusiveness, unity and friendship on campus.
