Welcome to the Faculty of Arts and Design at the Macao Polytechnic University!

The Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) adheres to the policy of “rooted in Macao and backed up by the motherland while facing the world and striving for excellence”, and strives to live up to our motto “Knowledge, Expertise, and Global vision,” and stays true to the educational principle of “a student-centered, quality-based institute.”  Over the years, the Faculty of Arts and Design has followed the Macao SAR Government’s policy for higher education, the MPU’s general guidelines, and the development plan (2021-2025) to strengthen the academic capabilities of our faculty and students. We believe in creativity and the applicability of knowledge. Frugality remaining a basic principle of this faculty, we will continue to build on the three bachelor’s degree programs, namely, BA in Music, BA in Visual Arts, and BA in Design, which have been accredited by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT).  Meanwhile, the Master of Interdisciplinary Arts and the Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts have been launched in recent years. The Faculty actively moves forward and plans for future development.

MPU positions itself to be an institution of higher learning with special focus on several applied disciplines and aims at keeping up with international standards in the teaching and research of all other disciplines and key research areas. In the Faculty of Arts and Design, we advocate applicability and have nurtured a student-centered learning environment. The knowledge, skills, and experience in our teaching and research are based on actual social contexts. The close interconnectivity between the pursuit of knowledge and social reality is an important component of contextual learning, discussion, and evaluation. We encourage students to explore, experiment, collaborate, reflect, lead, practice, articulate, share, publish and present to the public. We review and optimize our existing programs by assessing the results accomplished. We also actively develop diversified curricula in response to changes in society and the business world. We encourage our students to involve in the curricular design and to aim high in their professional goals. We will continue to forge academic partnerships in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and strengthen the exchanges and cooperation with institutions in China’s mainland and around the world.

Over the past 30 years since its founding, the Faculty of Arts and Design has gained the reputation of “the cradle for Macao’s creative talents.” Nearly 70% of our full-time faculty have a doctorate degree. The faculty team is composed of scholars from United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Australia, as well as from the Chinese Mainland, Macao, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. We have been inviting internationally renowned musicians, artists and designers for lectures, workshops, and performances on site. Last but not least, we work closely with related industries around the world. With the existing state-of-the-art classrooms, music rooms, distinctive media studios, and professional equipment on our Macao main campus and the Taipa campus, we are well positioned to face challenges and contribute to new arts by facilitating innovation and creativity, with the intention of giving back to the Macao society and the motherland.
