MPI Students Learn about Intangible Cultural Heritage and Art Education at Tianjin

Upon the invitation of Tiangong University (TGU), the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) recently organised students to participate in the “Intangible Cultural Heritage and Art Education Camp” arranged by TGU.  With a series of workshops and lectures, it was aimed to enhance students' understanding of Chinese culture and history, and to consolidate their sense of identity with the motherland.

This event is part of the “Hong Kong, Macao and Mainland China Teachers and Students Exchange Scheme (Ten Thousand People's Scheme)”. Ten teachers and students from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences were arranged to meet with the successor of “Four Wonders” to learn about the historical heritage and contemporary development of the intangible heritage items. The students and teachers were able to experience the unique artistic charm of Tianjin's intangible cultural heritage and learn about its development, history, techniques, conservation and heritage. At the opening ceremony of the exchange programme, Prof. Lou Shenghua, the leading teacher of MPI, was invited to introduce to the participants from Tianjin about the current status of Macao's intangible cultural heritage protection and transmission.  It is hoped that through this exchange programme, it will provide an opportunity to learn from and reflect on better protection and transmission of Macao's intangible cultural heritage.

Ms. Su, a student of the Public Administration Programme, said that young people are the future of our country and the inheritors of Chinese culture. The exchange activity made her feel the profoundness and longevity of Chinese culture, and raised her awareness of the responsibility to pass it on.  Therefore, in the future, she can become a bearer of Chinese culture and contribute to the cultural exchange between Macao and Tianjin.

The Macao Polytechnic Institute has always been committed to nurturing young talents who love China and Macao, and actively organises students to participate in exchange activities with Mainland universities to cultivate a sense of belonging and identification with the motherland, and to plant the sense of patriotism in the hearts of university students.
