Regulations Governing the Award of Principal Recommended Admission Scholarship

Applicable to Academic Year 2019/2020 student intake or after

As a public higher education institution, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) strives to cultivate local talents capable of serving the society. To attract the best secondary school graduates of Macao to enrol on our undergraduate programmes, we have in place the Principal Recommended Admission Scheme. Students with outstanding performance may receive a scholarship or gain direct admission to our undergraduate programmes.

1 Target Students
New students who apply for admission to our undergraduate programmes via this scheme are eligible for this scholarship.
2. Scholarship Categories
 
2.1 The scholarship is divided into the following categories:
  2.1.1 Elite Category: 100% of the first year's tuition fee of the Programme shall be directly discounted.
  2.1.2 Excellent Category: 50% of the first year's tuition fee of the Programme shall be directly discounted.
2.2 The scholarship will be extended in the second to the fourth academic year. For details of the renewal rules, see article 5.
3. Selection and Award
 
3.1 Scholarships in the Elite Category are awarded to the top Form Five students (or equivalent) whose academic results rank among the top 15% in the level.
3.2 Scholarships in the Excellent category are awarded to the top Form Five students (or equivalent) whose academic results rank among the top 25% in the level.
3.3 The selection of scholarships shall be conducted by the relevant School of MPI according to students' overall performance (such as academic results in secondary school) and the results of the admission interview.
4. Responsibilities of Scholarship Recipients
 
4.1 Recipients must study their Programme to which they are admitted according to the study plan published in the Official Gazette, and must be full-time students.
4.2 Recipients have the obligation to participate in and assist the student activities organized by the Institute.
5. Renewal and Termination of Scholarship
 
5.1 The scholarship will be renewed in the second to the fourth academic year. Renewal rules are as below:
  5.1.1 Elite Category:
    5.1.1.1 If recipients pass all subjects in the previous year, and have a year-end GPA of the previous year ranking among the top 10% in the level, 100% of the annual tuition fee shall be deducted in the following academic year.
    5.1.1.2 If recipients pass all subjects in the previous year, and have a year-end GPA of the previous year ranking among the top 25% in the level, 50% of the annual tuition fee shall be deducted in the following academic year.
  5.1.2 Excellent Category: If recipients pass all subjects in the previous year, and have a year-end GPA of the previous year ranking among the top 25% in the level, 50% of the annual tuition fee shall be deducted in the following academic year.
5.2 In any of the following cases, the scholarship will be terminated automatically:
  5.2.1 Academic results fall short of the requirements stipulated in 5.1;
  5.2.2 The recipient changes his/her programme of study;
  5.2.3 The recipient changes the mode of study (such as change from full-time study to part-time study, or change from morning class to night class, or vice versa);
  5.2.4 The recipient defers his/her studies;
  5.2.5 The recipient withdraws from his/her studies.
6. Others
Any other issues arising which are not specified shall be subject to determination by the Institute's Board of Management.
7. In Effect
This regulation took effect on 28 August 2018, and will apply to the new students admitted in academic year 2019/2020 and thereafter.
Remarks: MPI reserves the right to amend the details of the implementation of the scholarship at its discretion.
