About Us

Welcome to the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Macao Polytechnic University!

The Faculty of Applied Sciences was formerly known as the School of Administration and Applied Sciences. It was established when MPU was founded in 1991. It later took the name of the School of Public Administration and was renamed as School of Applied Sciences on August 7, 2019. It is one of the oldest institutes at MPU.

Our mission is to provide the most suitable and timely training and learning environment in the two academic domains of computing and social sciences, In response to the rising demands of the community, we cultivate capable individuals who can adapt to the changing environment with creative minds and mastery of practical skills Our graduates remain competitive and excel in their further studies and prospective employment.

For years, our Faculty has committed to upgrading and supervising the teaching quality and promoting the integration of our curriculum to align with international standards. The Bachelor's Degree in computing has successfully passed the accreditation review by the British Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2011. In 2018, the project "A New Model of Talent Cultivation——The Construction and Practice of Internationally Recognized Engineers" was awarded the "National Higher Education Achievement Award" by the Ministry of National Education. We proudly represent the first and the only tertiary institution in Macao to have received this award. In recent years, our undergraduate students in the computing program have represented Macao to participate and subsequently won many national and international awards such as a Gold Medal for the World Vocational Skills Competition-Website Design Project, China's Youth Innovation and Technology Award, the First Prize and the Most Practical Value Award of the Pan-Pearl River Delta + College Student Computer Works Competition, etc. Starting from the 2019/2020 academic year, our Faculty launched a Master's Degree program in Big Data and the Internet of Things, and a doctoral program in Computer Applied Technology to cultivate high-level professional talents. Furthermore, our Faculty has participated in the first Ministry of Education Engineering Research Centre project for the Hong Kong and Macao regions since 2019, namely, the "Engineering Research Centre of Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence on Applied Technology, Ministry of Education", through which we made contributions to the endeavor of building China into a strong science and technology powerhouse.

Our Bachelor's Degree programme in Sino-Lusophone Trade Relations was launched to align with the implementation of China's “Belt and Road” Initiative. We aim to contribute to further expand the China-Portugal relations by nurturing talents to serve Macao as a platform of business cooperation service between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

In terms of learning support, the Faculty prioritizes the students' needs through collecting and responding to their feedback on the quality of teaching in a timely manner and proactively promoting a strong rapport between the teaching staff and the students. Our faculty members are encouraged to participate in academic trainings to keep their knowledge updated and to enhance the professionalism. We have established partnerships with institutions at home and from abroad to provide exchange opportunities for students academic learning and career development. Our graduates are expected to effectively articulate their knowledge, skills and expertise to serve both the local and international community.
