Emeritus Professor Christopher Guy began his career working as a Research and Development engineer for an aerospace company. After several years working in industry, both in the UK and in Germany, he became an academic. After a short period as an assistant lecturer at Durham University, he was appointed a full lecturer at University College London with the specific task of introducing teaching about the then new-fangled technology of microprocessors. He moved to the University of Reading in 1989 where he was promoted, first to Senior Lecturer and then to Professor. He was Head of the School of Systems Engineering for six years. 

Professor Guy always worked closely with local industry and in the year 2000 won a national competition for the best engineering project with a small company. Alongside his successful academic career, Professor Guy collaborated with a large technical training company (The Learning Tree) to present their courses on data networking and computer architectures. He developed his own courses on Wireless Networking and presented these in the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and China.

He has published over 70 research papers and two books. He has taught many undergraduate and MSc-level courses, successfully supervised 12 PhD candidates and has acted as a PhD examiner on numerous occasions. He has also been an external examiner of courses at many universities, such as Southampton Solent University, the University of Liverpool, the University of Portsmouth, Coventry University and the University of Glasgow.

Professor Guy has acted as an Accreditor of Engineering programs for over ten years, and has visited many universities in the UK, Europe, India and China to accredit their courses. He was selected to chair two international panels to review the way Engineers Canada and then ABET handled their accreditation activities. He is a member of the Academic Accreditation Committee of the IET.  Outside of his professional work, Professor Guy has been a School Governor and was a member of the Standards Committee of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Authority for 5 years and Chairman of it for 2 years. He is a trustee of a local charity.

Professor Guy's personal interests include art, music, walking, playing and refereeing Walking Football and solving cryptic crosswords. He graduated with a BA in History of Art and Architecture, taken as a part-time course, in 2015.
