Notes for Non-Local Students

Student Visa

Chinese Mainland Students
According to the regulations of China’s and Macao’s immigration authorities, Chinese mainland students need to hold a valid entry-pass and visa (generally referred to as a “D Visa”) in order to enter Macao. Students who apply for the entry-pass for the first time must submit their applications to the Immigration Management Department in their home province, city or self-administrative region. The management department of the Macao Immigration Service will allow a maximum stay of 90 days to those students who enter Macao with a valid D Visa for the first time (meaning that students can remain in Macao without leaving for 90 days).

The Registry will assist to arrange new students (year one bachelor degree programme students) to apply for the “Special Stay Permit” (normally valid for one year). In the second and subsequent years, students must apply for this permit themselves. With the “Hong Kong and Macao Travel Pass” together with a valid student visa, students can travel freely between Macao and the mainland.

If the “Hong Kong and Macao Travel Pass” has been damaged or lost, or the “Student Visa” has expired, students need to apply for an Active/Registration Certificate at the China Travel Service (Macao) Limited, the immigration management offices at Zhuhai Immigration Office (Guangdong Province), or the student’s place of origin/domicile. Students must re-apply for the “Special Stay Permit” every time after their “Hong Kong and Macao Travel Pass” has been renewed. Students must pay the fee for renewing the “Hong Kong and Macao Travel Pass”.

Other Non-local Students
Visitors from many countries, with valid passport, require no visa to enter Macao and can stay in Macao for 30-90 days. Visitors from countries with no such exemption may either apply for an entry permit (aka visa-upon-arrival) upon arrival at Macao at any of the border checkpoints or apply for a “visa” of Macao in advance through a Chinese embassy or consulate.

Non-local candidates studying at a higher education institution in Macao are legally bound to apply for “Special Authorisation to Stay”, which is normally valid for one year. Candidates are responsible for applying for this permit and renewing it annually at the Immigration Affairs Department of Macao. For more details about the procedures, please refer to Special Authorisation to Stay for Non-resident Students.
