Programme outline 課程簡介
The Master of Science in Nursing program is designed in advancing professional knowledge and research abilities. The programme strongly emphasis on evidence-based approach to nurture expertise in advanced nursing practice; fostering management professionals to accommodate future development of nursing and clinical practice.
Programme objectives 課程目標
This programme aims to cultivate nursing professionals with global vision, virtue and talents. The programme particularly focuses on consolidating students’ theoretical knowledge and research techniques in Nursing, developing their abilities in applying research output, enhancing their skills in clinical analysis and decision making, as well as their competence in leadership, management, teaching and clinical nursing practice.
What will you be expected to achieve? 期望達到的成效
Upon the completion of this programme, the graduates are expected to have advanced nursing competency working in clinical specialties, and have the capabilities in clinical analysis and thinking; as well as disciplinary research. They are able to undertake a research project on a topic within the area of interest. They can independently solve common nursing problems in clinical areas. Graduates can work as leaders in different settings, such as working as a nursing manager in medical care services, becoming a specialist in clinical care to promote the use of new technologies; or serving as a community nurse in government and private health care institutions; or engaged in hospitals and communities for guiding the clinical nursing work of interns and advanced students, providing health education for patients and their families, promoting the rehabilitation of diseases, further developing continuing education for clinical nurses to promote the renewal of professional knowledge and skills ; or becoming a nursing professional teacher for  using modern teaching and learning methods to teach and cultivate nursing professionals.

How will you learn? 如何學習
The School promotes active learning within a context of clear learning objectives. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. Most modules require collaborative work and individual written assignments.  We expect informal work groups to emerge particularly in the more numerically based subjects. Clear guidance on basic and supplementary reading is given. The students apply the learned advanced knowledge and skills to nursing practice; communicate effectively with the client and establish professional interpersonal relationship with the client; and assess the needs of the client and apply the nursing process to meet these needs; as well as the application of learnt research knowledge and skills in implementing the thesis.  
How will you be assessed? 如何評核

The forms of assessment are based on continuous assessment. Each subject has its own composition, which is stated in the subject syllabus. The assessment methods are individual and group work, that include assignments, presentations, projects and  case studies. Clear guidance on all assessment methods are given, emphasizing in how to avoid plagiarism, together with the rules and procedures.

How is the programme structured? 課程架構
The 2 years programme are divided into two araes: academic-oriented and clinical specialist oriented. The academic-oriented area combined with 10 courses/360 hours/36 credits (8 compulsory subjects/270 hours/30 credits and 2 elective subjects/90 hours/6 credits). The clinical specialist oriented area combined with 9 courses/360 hours/36 credits (6 compulsory subjects/180 hours/24 credits and 3 elective subjects/180 hours/12 credits). The curriculum structure is designed to strengthen the students with advanced professional competence, research skills, leadership skills and education skills in nursing.

What are the entry requirements? 入學條件
According to Article 3 of Academic Regulations Governing Master's Degree Programmes of MPI, an applicant shall be considered for admission to a master’s degree programme of MPI if s/he:
a) holds a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited higher education institution;
b) fulfils other admission criteria prescribed by the programme of study concerned; and
c) satisfies the examiner(s) in an interview (if required).
Remarks: Students choosing clinical specialist orientation must have at least five years of nursing work experience in hospital or community health centre, and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing; and must take one elective module for 6 credits. The Institute will designate the elective modules available for students' enrollment each academic year.   
How do we listen and act on your feedback? 如何聽取及回應學生的回饋
Students feedback is formally collected at four different levels, i.e., class level, school level, institute level, and informal meeting. At class level, the students can communicate with class teacher in each subject and Program Coordinator/Assistant Program Coordinator. At school level, there are at least 2 dialogue between students and director, programme coordinators, and assistant programme coordinators per year. At institute level, there are at least 2 dialogue between student and senior management board per year. At informal meetings, teachers, assistant programme coordinators and programme coordinators will receive informal feedback from individual students under different occasions, such as corridor, canteen, and etc. Any abnormalies will be reported during monthly staff meeting within our programme.
Academic support and guidance 教學支援及指導
The Programme support students’ learning effectively through direct commnication with each subject teacher, conducting the regularly dialogue between students and school director, program coordinators and teachers, ensuring facilities are accessible and functional, facilitating exchange learning opportunities, organizing the extracurricular activities, and facilitating e-learning for students. Students are also advised on the support services available in Library. Students are assigned with a dedicated thesis supervisor for their research project.

Any students scoring less than 35% of the total mark in the final examination will be given an “F” grade for the course even if the overall grade is 50% or higher.

Macao Polytechnic Institute has in place an institution-wide policy to ensure that all student needs are taken care of and a supportive and accessible learning environment is maintained. When cases of special needs are notified or identified, special arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis with the joint effort of the programme and various
student support services of the Institute, such as the Registry, the Student Affairs Office, the Information Technology Department and the Campus Management and Development Department, etc. to provide the necessary support.
