Programme outline 課程簡介
The mission of the Bachelor of E-Commerce Programme, in alignment with that of the Institute and School, is to equip graduates with the capability to meet the challenges of a constantly changing business environment and commit to becoming life-long learners involved actively in the community. To accomplish its mission, the programme provides a well-balanced foundation of knowledge and applications in both business and information technology disciplines with the aim of cultivating professionals with proficiency in both areas. Graduates can integrate their skills in business and technological aspects effectively to develop electronic commerce solutions for a wide variety of industries, from small and medium enterprises to multinationals and public organizations.
The programme consists of four-year full‐time study or eight semesters. The first two years of study are intended primarily to provide students with knowledge of generic skills and core business fundamentals applicable to all business students, including e‐commerce students. The third year of study is meant to provide knowledge of concepts and skills related to e-commerce. The fourth year consists of e‐commerce related courses and a capstone project that integrates the knowledge and skills learnt.

How will you learn? 如何學習
The learning and teaching activities are designed to deliver the intended learning outcomes and programme content. The E-Commerce programme employs a range of teaching methods/activities, such as lectures, tutorials, computer laboratory work, case studies, group projects, in-class discussion and presentations to engage students in the learning process.
One‐way communication, which employs mainly lectures, tutorials and illustrations, is effective for theories, concepts, and new knowledge related courses. Two‐way or interactive communication will be utilized in tutorial discussions. In‐class exercise, discussion and quiz, laboratory exercise and coaching will be used to build up logical thought and analytical work. To deliver the expected outcomes of the corresponding courses, these teaching methods will be used throughout the programme as the instructors see fit.
An official e-learning platform, Canvas, is used for learning and teaching. The use of technology is integrated into classroom learning and outside-classroom activities to increase student-to-staff and student-to-student engagement.
How will you be assessed? 如何評核
Assessments are designed to support learning and enable students to demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes and the required standards. The E-Commerce programme uses a variety of assessment tools to minimise the disadvantages of each, and to provide individual students (who will have different strengths and learning styles) with a range of opportunities to demonstrate their achievement.
In general, students are assessed on an ongoing basis, and will be examined comprehensively at the end of each course. Continuous assessment includes assignments, projects, laboratory exercises, tests, quizzes, participation, presentations, and class attendance. These formative assessment tasks enable students to review their progress and plan further learning strategies. Most courses of the programme are set with a final examination as summative assessment, which accounts for 40% to 50% of the total assessment of the course. Examinations take a variety of formats, which include multiple-choice questions, short questions, long questions, case analysis questions and lab tests for ICT-related courses.
Grades are awarded according to an institute-wide system that provides an appropriate range to reflect student performance at different levels of competence and understanding. Quality assurance measures are adopted to ensure the academic standards of the programme are met.
How is the programme structured? 課程架構
The E-Commerce programme has an interdisciplinary nature and nurtures professionals to develop competence in both information technology and business management. The various information technology courses (such as programming, website construction and management) offered in the programme will provide students with a solid foundation in the development of electronic commerce applications. Meanwhile, business theory and practice, including those in accounting and marketing, are also an integral part of the programme. Additionally, courses covering topics specific to e-commerce, such as internet marketing, business intelligence and electronic finance systems, are also included.

What are the Entry Requirements? 入學條件
According to Article 3 of Academic Regulations Governing Bachelor's Degree Programmes of MPI,
An applicant shall be considered for admission to a bachelor’s degree programme of the Institute if s/hea) holds a qualification not lower than Grade 12 or the equivalent, andb) fulfils other admission criteria prescribed by the programme of study concerned.
An applicant of age 23 or above, proven to possess relevant capabilities (especially in the entrance examination(s) of MPI), shall be considered for admission to a bachelor’s degree programme with a waiver on the requirement in item a) of above point.
How do we listen and act on your feedback? 如何聽取及回應學生的回饋
The programme management encourages and values students’ inputs in the quality assurance system. Student feedback is collected via the Year tutor, staff-student dialogue meetings and student surveys.
- All students are allocated Year tutors. The role of the Year tutor is to provide general academic and personal support and encouragement, and advice on pastoral issues. Year tutors are full‐time members of the staff and are the initial point of contact on the above matters.
- Staff-student dialogue meetings are held at all levels of the programme, school and institute. The dialogue meeting, which involves elected student representatives, the programme coordinator, and school director, is held at least once each semester and provides a forum for consultation and discussion between staff and students.
- Other channels of student feedback include student and graduate surveys, which are conducted annually.
Information and opinions from the above sources are channelled back to the school director and programme coordinator for follow-up actions. The programme management considers students’ feedback highly and views it a key component of quality education.
Academic support and guidance 教學支援及指導
The following academic support services offer students optimum opportunities for successful completion of the programme.
- The student affairs office provides a range of support services to students including, among others, counselling services, students’ union, student exchange, career services, student orientation and extra-curricular activities.
- MPI offers scholarships and grants to students with outstanding performance. A grant scheme for helping students with financial difficulties is also in place.
- Student learning is supported by English writing assistance services, library facilities, and information technology facilities such as computer laboratories, campus-wide wireless network and cloud computing.
4. Each student is assigned an academic staff as his/her year tutor throughout their four years of studies. Year tutors give advice on academic studies, career development and further studies. In cases where students need specific help, Year tutors can refer them to the departments/units concerned, and/or coordinate the provision of remedial programmes if appropriate.

Graduates with good academic standing are eligible to apply for the Certified E-Commerce Consultant Certificate from the Institute of Certified E-Commerce Consultants (US-based) and Data Mining Certificate from SAS Institute (a leader in data analytics).
Support for students with disabilities 身心障礙學生支援
Macao Polytechnic Institute has in place an institution-wide policy to ensure that all student needs are taken care of and a supportive and accessible learning environment is maintained. When cases of special needs are notified or identified, special arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis with the joint effort of the programme and various student support services of the Institute, such as the Registry, the Student Affairs Office, the Information Technology Department and the Campus Management and Development Department, etc. to provide the necessary support.
Links with employers, internship opportunities and transferable skills 與僱主的關係、實習機會及可轉移技能
The E-Commerce programme emphasises the application and integration of information technology into business. Co-curricular activities, such as internship, practicum, incubation, seminars and study tours are arranged to help students integrate theories and practice during the course of their studies and allow them to gain a hands-on understanding of business operations.
An industrial advisory board was set up at the school and programme levels in 2013 and 2016, respectively. Board meetings are held at least once a year when major developments of the programme in the past academic year are reported and deliberated upon. The two advisory boards act as interfaces between the industry or community at large and the E-Commerce programme. Employer surveys are used as one of the means to inform the programme of its achievement of the objectives and outcomes. Advice and support are sought from employers from multiple channels to ensure the programme meets the needs of the job market and to increase the employability of the graduates.
