Programme outline 課程簡介
This programme offers language, literature and cultural courses in three languages, i.e. Chinese, Portuguese and English, and consists of two study plans designed respectively for native and non-native speakers of Chinese. For native speakers of Chinese, the curricular focus is on acquiring knowledge and/or skills in the following areas: Chinese language, culture and literature; Chinese language teaching; and the development of Chinese and western societies. For non-native speakers of Chinese, the focus is on acquiring Chinese language skills (listerning, reading, writing, and speaking) and knowledge about Chinese society and culture. While specialised in the Chinese language, the programme also incorporates training in the practical use of Portuguese and English.

This programme aims to cultivate quality professionals, who will be able to effectively apply Chinese, English and Portuguese language skills to real practice;acquire adequate knowledge in Chinese language, literature, history, etc;acquire general knowledge in English and Portuguese language, literature, culture, etc;effectively apply translation skills and techniques to real practice;be equipped with adequate written, oralcommunicative and interpersonal abilities;acquire essential abilities to do academic researches; obtain a global vision and cross-cultural competence in response to the needs posed by the development of Macao, Portuguese-speaking countries and the international community; build the awareness of professionalism and teamwork;build the capacity and desire to learn new or higher level subjects;and build the capacity and desire for lifelong learning.

After four years of study, students will be able to make use of Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Portuguese and English to be engaged in such fields as commerce, trading, administrative management, cultural and language education, mass communication and creative industries.

How will you learn? 如何學習
Students learn by participating in lectures, group discussion, research projects on selected topics, and internship (Chinese language teaching or language related services). Students will participate in one-year exchange study at Beijing Language and Culture University or at a partner institution in Portugal.
How will you be assessed? 如何評核
Various forms of assessment will be used to evaluate student learning. This would include quizzes, project reports, papers and final exams. Some courses would require students to pass relevant public exams.
How is the programme structured? 課程架構
The programme offers mainly courses on Chinese language with some on English and Portuguese, covering fields such as Chinese and foreign languages, literature, and culture. Courses on Chinese language teaching are also offered to students who are native speakers of Chinese. Students are required to obtain 150 credits upon graduation, including 6 credits for dissertation. With a practical orientation, students are required to conduct fieldworks (teaching or language services related) in the third or fourth year. The programme includes one year of exchange studies (Year 2 or Year 3) in a higher education institutions in mainland China or overseas. The credits thus obtained would be recognised via subject equivalence arrangements stipulated in the agreements between MPI and the receiving institutions.

What are the Entry Requirements? 入學條件
According to Article 3 of Academic Regulations Governing Bachelor's Degree Programmes of MPI,
An applicant shall be considered for admission to a bachelor’s degree programme of the Institute if s/hea) holds a qualification not lower than Grade 12 or the equivalent, andb) fulfils other admission criteria prescribed by the programme of study concerned.
An applicant of age 23 or above, proven to possess relevant capabilities (especially in the entrance examination(s) of MPI), shall be considered for admission to a bachelor’s degree programme with a waiver on the requirement in item a) of above point.
How do we listen and act on your feedback? 如何聽取及回應學生的回饋
Each class of students will have their student representatives and year tutors to facilitate communication. Student counselling services are in place to help students to cope with the problems they encounter in their study and daily life. Programme dialogue meetings are arranged every semester to collect and respond to student feedback.
Academic support and guidance 教學支援及指導
There are multimedia laboratories to support students' language training. Students would have access to MPI's library services and IT facilities. The programme will coordinate the fieldwork arrangements.
Programme-specific rules and facts 課程特定的規則及事項
Some of the courses require students to participate in public exams (e.g. Mandarin language testing) and attain centain levels. Students who wish to obtain Macao's teacher qualification are required to take the courses on teaching fieldwork. The credits and scores obtained during exchange will be recognised according to the agreement between MPI and the receiving institutions.
Support for students with disabilities 身心障礙學生支援
Macao Polytechnic Institute has in place an institution-wide policy to ensure that all student needs are taken care of and a supportive and accessible learning environment is maintained. When cases of special needs are notified or identified, special arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis with the joint effort of the programme and various student support services of the Institute, such as the Registry, the Student Affairs Office, the Information Technology Department and the Campus Management and Development Department, etc. to provide the necessary support.

Collaboration and partnership have been established with local organisations or companies in the fields of culture and education, business, and administrative management to provide students with fieldwork opportunities in Chinese language teaching and language services. This is to enable students with skills in language teaching, translation, and administrative management.
