Programme outline 課程簡介
The aim of the two-year Master of Science in Sports and Physical Education is to meet the local demand for sports professionals and to better serve the Macau society. The taught subjects of the programme cover the theory and method of physical education, the research of sports psychology, the physiological basis of training adaptation and health promotion, etc., so that graduate students can further consolidate the theoretical basis of physical education and grasp the development trend of sports science. In addition, by completing master's thesis with theoretical significance or practical value, students can not only exercise their ability to apply theories to practical work, but also improve their scientific research capabilities and lay a solid foundation for their future studies.

The objective of this programme is to cultivate high-level master of education in sports and physical education. Graduates of this program can be competent in coaching, teaching, scientific research and management in sports training and physical education.

How will you learn? 如何學習
Suitable learning strategies and teaching methods are planned and employed according to the nature and characteristics of the different subjects. The major methods of learning include lectures, field practice, tutorials, seminars, workshop and laboratory work. Each is carefully tailored to fit to the course and the students. In addition, master’s thesis is an essential course of cultivating graduate students to master research methods and it’s completed under the careful guidance of the tutor.
Students are also provided a variety of learning resources, including well-equipped laboratories of sports science, the Canvas Learning Management Platform, and a well-funded library with extensive books on sports and almost all of online journals of sports science.
How will you be assessed? 如何評核
According to the characteristics of courses, the assessment can include different methods, such as final examination, coursework assessments, laboratory reports, projects reports, and individual and group verbal presentations. The assessment rules are clearly set out in the syllabus. The master’s thesis should be reviewed by a three-member committee and candidate have performed a public oral defend. All assessment methods and results should be checked by external examiners.
How is the programme structured? 課程架構
The programme is delivered over four semesters spanning two years, the first two being the taught courses and the 3rd and the 4th being master’s thesis. In order to be qualified for graduation, students must complete 36 credits composed of: 18 credits from compulsory modules; 6 credits from elective modules; 12 credits from thesis and pass the oral defense.

What are the Entry Requirements? 入學條件
According to Article 3 of Academic Regulations Governing Master's Degree Programmes of MPI, an applicant shall be considered for admission to Master of Science in Sports and Physical Education if s/he:
a) holds a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited higher education institution; or has long-term training experience and excellent sports achievement (if applicant's degree is not related to physical education and sports);
b) satisfies the examiner(s) in an interview.
Applicants are required to submit resumes, university transcripts, sports awards and research publications, etc., and need to attend interview. The interview focuses on candidates’ knowledge of sports studies and physical education, scientific research potential and ability of speculative thinking. The selection of qualified applications for admission is based on the admission quota, documents submitted by the applicant and his/her performance in the interview.
How do we listen and act on your feedback? 如何聽取及回應學生的回饋
Each student is assigned a tutor immediately after being enrolled via two-way selection. Student can reflect their suggestion to his/her tutor anytime. The programme coordinator welcomes the students to come to the office at any time to express their opinions and appointment isn’t needed.
All students are requested to complete the "Taught Course and Teaching Evaluation Questionnaire". The 2nd year students (prospective graduate students) are also requested to complete the "Thesis and Supervisor Evaluation Questionnaire". The evaluation is performed two times for each academic year. Such evaluation results will be sent to teacher concerned by the School Director with suggestions for quality improvement. Student feedback is also collected through daily informal discussions and at Student Dialogue Meetings. The meetings are held at least once a semester.
Comments, suggestions and complaints from the students for teaching quality improvement will be seriously considered and follow-up actions may be taken if the suggestions are relevant and are within the terms of reference of the school. Suggestions directed to specific teachers will be passed on to him/her for follow-up actions. Others, depending on their nature, may be sent to the relevant departments for further consideration and action.
Academic support and guidance 教學支援及指導
The tutors give detailed guide to students about the procedure of completing master’s thesis includes thesis proposal, collecting data, thesis writing and oral defense. Other academic suggestions such as choice of selective modules are also given by tutors. Tutors will be advised to speak to these students personally to determine the cause underlying poor performance and to promote the student's academic achievement. Digital literacy workshops and English writing workshops are regularly held by MPI library and Bell center respectively and students are encouraged to attend.

Support for students with disabilities 身心障礙學生支援
Macao Polytechnic Institute has in place an institution-wide policy to ensure that all student needs are taken care of and a supportive and accessible learning environment is maintained. When cases of special needs are notified or identified, special arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis with the joint effort of the programme and various student support services of the Institute, such as the Registry, the Student Affairs Office, the Information Technology Department and the Campus Management and Development Department, etc. to provide the necessary support.

Graduates have developed a range of cognitive and practical skills together which be applicable to different context beyond academia. Students have accumulated essential experience by practicing in MPI undergraduate teaching and laboratory Settings. Many external distinguished scholars address workshop or seminars to improve students' global vision and academic capability. Industrial Advisory Meeting organised by the Programme is held at least annually to provide the Programme with valuable industrial advices and feedbacks on the performance of our graduates. As our school has a high reputation in Macao, most of local graduates can enter into full time paid employment immediately after completing their degrees. Our doctoral programme jointed with Shanghai University of sports is the preference choice for graduate to further study.
