Appreciation of Beijing Opera Presented by China Beijing Opera Foundation
China Beijing Opera Foundation demonstrated two Beijing Operas: “The Drunken Beauty” and “Havoc in Heaven”
Dong Yuanyuan and Zhang Jianguo demonstrated the classic plots of Beijing Opera: “Lady General Mu Takes Command” and “The Empty City Strategy”
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, disseminate the quintessence of Chinese culture and promote learning of the national situation, organised by Macao Foundation, China Beijing Opera Foundation, and Macao Polytechnic Institute, a lecture of Beijing Opera was held at MPI by the 10th China Beijing Opera Troupe, who were invited to perform in Macao. This lecture was honoured to have Zhang Jianguo, the Director General of China Beijing Opera Foundation, one of the first-class national actors, to introduce the appreciation of Beijing Opera, to demonstrate this specific art in the Chinese culture, and to summarise the knowledge of Beijing Opera. At the same time, Jilin Opera Theatre’s Beijing Opera troupe was also invited to demonstrate to the students. The lecture was attended by more than 200 people, including Shao Bin, the vice-directory assistant minister of the Propaganda department of LOCPG, Im Sio Kei, President of MPI, representatives from different organisations, teachers and students.
During the lecture of Beijing Opera, Zhang Jianguo explained the development of traditional Chinese Opera and the formation of Beijing Opera, with illustrations of the aesthetics of this specific art. Clips of “The Drunken Beauty”, “Havoc in Heaven” and “Picking up a Jade Bracelet” were performed, accompanied with music. The climax of the lecture went to the staging by Dong Yuanyuan, one of the first-class national actors, and Zhang Jianguo performing together the classic plots of Beijing Opera: “Lady General Mu Takes Command” and “The Empty City Strategy”. The performance fascinated the floor, perfectly demonstrated the unique and in-depth traditional Chinese culture and aroused unceasing applause.
Macao Polytechnic Institute always pays attention to students’ learning of the national situation. Upon the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, MPI was honoured to invite Zhang Jianguo to share the appreciation of Beijing Opera, which is part of the national culture. Additionally, via the demonstration of the quintessence of Chinese culture, MPI hopes to develop the students’ appreciation of this cultural art, and furthermore, to spread the positivity to the youth and the society.
