Professor Dai Dingcheng awarded the "Medal of Merit – Culture"

Professor Dai Dingcheng of the School of Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute, was awarded the Medal of Merit–Culture 2013 by the Chief Executive, Dr Chui Sai On, on behalf of the Macao SAR Government for his excellent contributions in the cultural sector.

Professor Dai, PhD (SCM) in Theory of Composition, focuses on early European polyphonic music and modern music, as well as Macao musical life in the local urban context. He has held a professorship in MPI since 2003. He is also a member of the Cultural Consultative Committee of the Macao SAR Government, a consultant of the Advisory Committee of the Macao Orchestra under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and an honorary musical director of several Macao music associations, as well as a distinguished researcher of the Central Conservatory of Music. Being a former Visiting Professor of Newcastle University, the Vice President of Shanghai Musicians Association (SMA) and Dean of the Music College of Shanghai Normal University, he has also visited and studied overseas in Japan, Finland, Sweden and the UK.

Professor Dai has published monographs including Concepts and Forms of Early European Harmony, Keyboard Harmony and Improvising Accompaniment, Music Education in Macao, Music Performance in Macao, Music Compositions in Macao, Brief Music History of Macao and compiled Prospects of Music Disciplines and Prospects of Higher Art Education in Macao. He has also published over 100 articles and analytical essays in Asia and Europe.
