Successful Academic Review for MPI’s Bachelor of Science programmes in Biomedical Technology (Medical Laboratory Technology & Pharmacy Technology)

Biomedical technology programme teacher reported practical laboratory teaching to the A3ES review panel

MPI’s Bachelor of Science programme in Biomedical Technology (Medical Laboratory Technology) and Bachelor of Science programme in Biomedical Technology (Pharmacy Technology) have successfully passed an academic review by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), Portugal. The two programmes are the first degree course in Macao to be academically accredited in the area of medical laboratory technology and pharmacy technology respectively. The A3ES review panel has fully affirmed the efforts and contributions made by faculty members, students and other stakeholders in the two biomedical technology programmes of MPI. It also strengthened the recognition of higher education in Macao.

In order to continuously improve the quality of teaching and learning and proactively responding to the Macao SAR Government’s policy of promoting academic assessment for higher education institutions, MPI has invited the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education from Portugal to conduct an academic review for the two biomedical technology programmes. The A3ES review panel has conducted a three-day site visit to Macao in December, 2017. During the assessment period, the A3ES review panel has met many stakeholders of the two programmes including President of MPI, Director of School of Health Sciences, programme faculty, graduates, students, employers and clinical tutors of the two programmes of School of Health Sciences, The A3ES review panel, after the extensive review process, has fully affirmed and appreciated the teaching quality, academic integrity, research standards and learning environment of the two biomedical technology programmes.

With its philosophy of high quality, student-centred education, MPI is committed to have continuous improvement in the teaching quality of its programmes to ensure that students’ ability, knowledge and quality of graduates are in line with the development of society. MPI’s Bachelor of Science programme in Biomedical Technology has more than 50 years of practical experience in Macao society. The two programmes have trained a large number of excellent medical laboratory and pharmacy technical professionals in Macao, and for Macao and beyond. The standard and quality of the graduates have been widely recognized by both the community in Macao and Portuguese academic accreditation authority, A3ES. This will certainly encourage all faculty members and students to exert their efforts continuously, being further in line with the Macao SAR government and all stakeholders to address the forever changing needs of Macao society, leading to even greater contribution to higher education and professional development in Macao.
