MPI Held "The 12th Macao-wide IT Competition – ALICE 3D Programming Contest" Awards Ceremony

The Award Ceremony of the "12th Macao-wide IT Competition – ALICE 3D Programming Contest", hosted by the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), co-organized by the Gaming Standards Association (GSA), supported by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT), was held at MPI on 15 December, 2020. The hosts invited Wan Kam Meng, Honorary Fellow of the Guangdong Institution of Engineers and President of the Macao Computer Society, leaders of the competition support units, and local secondary school principals and representatives to come and serve as award-giving guests, including Ip Chong Wa, member of the Administrative Committee of CTT, Lai Iok In, the Head of the Division of Organization and Information of DSEJ, Cheang Kit Chio, Principal of Lou Hau High School, Kuok Keng Man, Vice Principal of Pui Ching Middle School, Wu Weng Ian, Vice Principal of Colégio Mateus Ricci, Tam Seak Tim and Kong Iam Iok, Vice Principals of Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai. The theme of this year’s competition is "Smart Life in Macao", which aims to allow participants to understand the application of technological innovation in real life, so as to promote the development of information technology in Macao. This competition also aims to cultivate and gather talents with comprehensive abilities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) for the construction and development of Macao smart city, and to help Macao to contribute in building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into an "International Technological Innovation Centre".

Registration for this competition was enthusiastic, with a total of nearly 300 people registering for the competition. The participating teams presented Macao smart life in different forms, fully demonstrating the understanding and expectation of high school students and residents in Macao towards Macao smart life, and understanding the importance of technology applications in life. The First Prize winners of the secondary school category are Leong Chi Tou, Cheong Sam I and Feng Ka Seong from Pui Ching Middle School. Their work is "A Small City Shows Great Wisdom". The First Prize of the open category was won by Lou Wai Fo and Hoi Nei Tat for their work "Smart Baby Happy Fun".

The Computing Programme of MPI provides a 3D programming training course for participants every year. The training course was conducted online this year. Many mentors from participating secondary schools said that this competition provides a platform for good communication and exchanges, which enhances students' interest in information technology.

Throughout the years in this competition, MPI has invited authoritative experts from other places to review the programme demonstrations of the participants, which has improved the professional knowledge of the programming participants, enabling them to gain valuable participation experience. The Second Prize in the secondary school category of this competition was won by Tang Ieong Ieong, Wong Pou I and Chan Hou U from Lou Hau High School. The Most Creative Idea Prize was won by Lei Kuan U, Tam Sin Kei and U Seng Hei from the Affiliated School of the University of Macau. The Future Stars Prize this year was won by Chao Cheok Seng and Kou Un Long of Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai. Merit Prizes were won by Colégio Mateus Ricci, Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai, Pui Ching Middle School and Lou Hau High School. The Second Prize winners of the open category are Che Meng U, Lao Weng Fong and Hon Chang Kit. The First Prize winners of both categories demonstrated their winning works at the award ceremony.

This competition has also played an active role in continuing to enhance the interest and application capabilities in information technology of Macao citizens, and continues to promote the development and popularization of information technology in Macao. In particular, due to the impact of the epidemic, through the competition, the participants can better understand the huge role of technological innovation in daily life.
