After receiving “The John Purcell Paper Prize” (Awarded artwork “Mario Night”) in 2015 and “The Leathersellers’ Award” (Awarded artwork “Working Alone”) in 2016, MPI student Filipe Miguel das Dores (Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art, Year 4) has two artworks “Which Payphone is Ringing?” and “Which Mirror Reflects the Ringing Payphone?” selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours 205th Exhibition. Standing out from nearly 2000 artworks, this is the third consecutive year for Filipe to have artworks selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Exhibition. Filipe has shown the high learning standard of Macao Polytechnic Institute, and does credit to Macao.

The New Society of Painters in Water Colours was resurrected in 1831, and renamed as the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI) under the command of Queen Victoria in 1885. It’s rigorous to join the RI; in order to become a candidate for membership, the applicant should have exhibited at the RI annual exhibition on at least two previous occasions, and be voted by the RI members. The RI has 73 members, including the honorary member Prince of Wales. The RI annual exhibition is internationally recognized, and the 205th exhibition is held from 5th to 22nd April 2017 at Mall Galleries, London. There are only 137 artworks from nonmembers among the 2000 exhibited artworks, and Filipe has two artworks selected by this international exhibition.

Macao Polytechnic Institute congratulates Filipe for having artworks selected by the RI, and expects Filipe to take this opportunity to exchange with the international art masters, and to make further improvements of his artistic attainments. For the purpose of promoting social development, MPI provides a broad range of bachelor degree programmes, and is particularly concerned with the development of courses in the cultural and creative area. MPI also strives to enhance the teaching and learning quality by gaining international academic accreditation, and thereby to cultivate students with broad knowledge and international horizons, and to be devoted to the sustainable development of Macao. MPI will support Filipe and all students to seek breakthroughs in their artistic development, and to promote the presence of Macao young artists on the international stage.
