MPU joins Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Creative Arts Alliance, promoting the cooperation and development in education in the Greater Bay Area In order to promote communication, collaboration and resource sharing in the field of creative arts in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, while enhancing the level of cooperation in the creative arts among the three places and bringing together the research strengths of elite universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in the field of creative arts, Macao Polytechnic University, Sun Yat-Sen University, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, and The Education University of Hong Kong jointly signed the "Agreement on the Formation of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Creative Arts Alliance" under the framework of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance.
MPU and Sands China Jointly Run The Art Talent Development Showcase to Contribute Toward Macao’s Cultural Tourism Development To support Macao’s youth policies and facilitate its “1+4” adequate economic diversification development, the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), Sands China Ltd., and the MPU Alumni Association jointly organised an achievement exhibition for the Art Talent Development Showcase at the Lam Kan Exhibition Gallery of MPU to display students’ creative achievements, which received overwhelming responses. Mr Im Sio Kei, Rector of MPU; Mr Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd.; Mr Wong U Kei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MPU Alumni Association; and others, attended the event and presented certificates to the students who participated in the programme.
MPU's 2024 Open Day showcased outstanding teaching and research achievements with enthusiastic response The “Macao Polytechnic University Open Day 2024” was held on 6 January and has showcased the characteristics of the University’s educational approach, information on degree programmes, achievements in teaching and research, social services, and achievements as a result of international cooperation. This was done through a series of activities such as degree programme seminars, guidance sessions for further studies, thematic exhibitions, campus tours, workshops, experiential sessions as well as exchange sessions with graduates. The Open Day has attracted nearly 3000 participants, including recent high school graduates, elites, students and parents, making a very lively event.
MPU Student Kwan Hoi Io won the Open Group Grand Champion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao To encourage students, youngsters and members of the public to express their impressions of marine life through art, and with a view to promoting public awareness on conservation of marine resources, The Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR, the Marine and Water Bureau, the Department of Natural Resources of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, and the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong jointly organised the "Painting the Colorful Ocean, Protecting Our Home – Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Marine Life Drawing Competition 2022”. The competition attracted participation from young students and people from the three regions, with over 6,000 pieces of work submitted. Macao Polytechnic University Student Kwan Hoi Io, a student from the Bachelor of Arts in Design, won the Open Group Grand Champion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao.
MPU welcomes 2,200 new students at the start of the academic year, the Rector sends a message to inherit the spirit of love for the motherland and for Macao Macao Polytechnic University held the opening ceremony of the 2023/2024 academic year and the first MPU lecture on August 21, to launch a new study journey with 2,200 new students of Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programmes from Macao, the Greater Bay Area, all over the country, as well as Portuguese-speaking countries, and regions overseas. Rector Im Sio Kei expressed his wishes to the freshmen to inherit the spirit of love for the motherland and for Macao, to be the pioneers of the new era, to contribute wisdom and strength to the construction of the country and Macao.
Selected in the top eight of the Times Higher Education Awards Asia, MPU’s innovation in both teaching and research of the arts has been recognised internationally The Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2023, attracting over 500 entries from universities across Asia, took place at the THE Asia Universities Summit in Hong Kong on 21 June 2023. Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) was one of the eight finalists for the Award of “Excellence and Innovation in the Arts”. Its innovation in research and teaching of the arts has been recognised internationally.
MPU Holds 2023 Graduation Ceremony with Over 800 Graduates Embark on a New Journey The Macao Polytechnic University Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2022/2023 was held at 4:00 pm on May 31st at the university's multi-sport pavilion. The national flag was raised and the national anthem was sung at the graduation ceremony. More than 800 students from doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree programs graduated. At the ceremony, honorary doctoral degrees were awarded to individuals who have made outstanding academic achievements and significant contributions to social and educational development. Ms. Ao Ieong U, representative of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region and chancellor of University Council, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, expressed that the SAR government will continue to support the university's commitment to the education policy of "dual emphasis on teaching and research", cultivate more outstanding talents for Macao and the country, and create better scientific research results.
MPU Design Programme Teaching Achievement Exhibition In order to cultivate students' creative thinking and show the characteristics of the course, the Faculty of Art and Design of Macao Polytechnic University recently held the opening of the "Space and Structure Teaching Achievement Exhibition", exhibiting the creative works of 91 students of the Bachelor of Design programme, demonstrating the collaborative teaching outcomes of the disciplines of space and structure. The works showcased were full of whimsy and imagination.
MPU Awards Scholarships to 600 Outstanding Students The Macao Polytechnic University held the 2023 Scholarship Award Ceremony at the University Auditorium on April 22. Scholarships were awarded to 600 outstanding students to recognise their excellent achievements in different academic and professional fields, and to encourage students to continue to strive for academic excellence and motivation. MPU aims to cultivate young leaders who are creative and competitive with an international perspective to contribute to the country.
MPU 2023 Information Day Showcased Diverse Teaching and Research Achievements and Received Overwhelmingly Positive Reactions Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) successfully held its hybrid 2023 Information Day on 22 April. Through a series of programmes and studies consultation booths, academic research experiences, sharing sessions, thematic exhibitions, and performances by students from Portuguese-speaking countries, it showcased MPU’s characteristics, programme information, as well as the latest research results to the community. Prospective secondary school graduates, secondary school students, their parents and the public were attracted to participate, and the response has been enthusiastic.

"Art Talent Development Programme" Jointly Organised by MPU and Sands China to Cultivate Talents Together To improve students' practical ability, strengthen their expertise, and show their talents in the art field, Macao Polytechnic University, Sands China and the MPU Alumni Association jointly launched the "Art Talent Development Programme", and the "Achievement Sharing Meeting" of the programme was held on 7th June to show the creative achievements of MPU students. The Rector of Macao Polytechnic University, Im Sio Kei, the President of Sands China Ltd, Wilfred Wong, and the President of the Board of the Macao Polytechnic University Alumni Association, Wong U Kei, among others, were present at the event and awarded the certificates to the students participating in the programme.

MPU Design Exhibition Presents 26 Visible Songs In order to cultivate students' creative thinking and demonstrate the characteristics of the design course, Macao Polytechnic University recently held an exhibition of space and modelling design works in the exhibition hall of Macao Polytechnic University’s Research and Development Building at the Taipa Campus. The exhibition showcased the results of the collaborative teaching of new disciplines and presented innovative design ideas full of whimsy.
Wood Engraving — Art Exhibition by Chu Kin Fat Organised by MPU To promote youth development and to display the latest artworks by young artists so that all sectors of society have a deeper understanding of the achievements of professional training in Macao Polytechnic University (hereafter “MPU”), MPU and the MPU Alumni Association jointly organized “Wood Engraving — Art Exhibition by Chu Kin Fat” to display 18 latest wood engraving artworks by the MPU graduate and Macao young artist Chu Kin Fat.

MPI held Exam Gas Station to Give Encouragement and Warmth to Students Organised by the Student Affairs Office and Student Union of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the "Exam Gas Station" was recently held before the final exams of the first semester. The event created a harmonious, mutually supportive and encouraging campus atmosphere which assisted in helping students to release some of their stress and transmit positivity among students. Students took photos in front of the blessings wall backdrop, while the Student Union distributed refreshing beverages and heart-warming gifts to participants through mini games. But the sincerest blessings were given to students through musical performances. In addition, the Lunch Music Salon, performed by students from the Music Programme, was held to relax students’ bodies and minds with beautiful vocal solos and various musical instrument solos including the flute, Zhongruan, trombone and marimba.
MPI and Sands China Launch Talent Development Programme In order to enhance the competitiveness of higher education students and young people, as well as develop their career planning, the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Sands China and the Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association jointly launched the “Art Talent Development Showcase Programme”, whose objectives are to stimulate higher education students’ creative thinking, enhance their practical skills, promote talent development and lay a solid foundation for their future career planning. The opening ceremony took place on 12 November at the Adelson Advanced Education Centre, Venetian Macao. The President of Macao Polytechnic Institute, Im Sio Kei, the President of Sands China Ltd, Wilfred Wong, and the President of the Board of the Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association, Wong U Kei, among others, were present at the event and presided over the opening ceremony.
Macao Orchestra Holds Its First University Concert “Rhythm of Tango” at MPI The Macao Orchestra recently held its first university concert of the season "Rhythm of Tango" at Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), bringing a wonderful musical feast to teachers and students alike this autumn. Under the leadership of the orchestra conductor, Jian Baijian, the Macao Orchestra vividly presented world classics such as “Quatro, para Tango”, “Por uma Cabeça”, “Adiós Nonino”, “Underground Tango”, “Danzas Latinoamericanas”, etc. In addition, the conductor also guided the audience into the world of classical music to gain artistic nourishment by giving an appreciation of the beautiful pieces. The concert attracted more than 150 teachers and students to attend with enthusiastic responses.
Bringing the New: Joint Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition of Year 3, Visual Programme, MPI The opening ceremony of the "Joint Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition of Visual Arts Programme, Macao Polytechnic Institute", themed "GYBE", was held by the Visual Arts Programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI). The exhibition comprises 20 pieces of modern and contemporary art works with various art forms, created by junior (year 3) students of Macao Polytechnic Institute, including installations, immersive art, conceptual art as well as graphic works. This is a new milestone for our institute.

MPI Held Lunch Choral Salon to infuse the Campus with Positivity To deepen the cultural and artistic environment in the campus, create a relaxing and joyful learning environment, and to promote the healthy growth of students, the Student Affairs Office of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organized the Lunch Choral Salon in the lobby of Meng Tak Building at the institute. The event was held to infuse positive energy into the campus and to demonstrate the results of the teaching singing to the audience. Everyone enjoyed the warm and lively atmosphere of the show.
Renowned painting and calligraphy artist Cui Ruzhuo visited MPI On 26 February 2021, the renowned painting and calligraphy artist Cui Ruzhuo visited the School of Arts of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and was warmly welcomed by MPI President Im Sio Kei. The artist, as well as other guests of honour, discussed cordially and interacted with teachers and students in a lively atmosphere.
Professor Ma Quan of Tsinghua University Lectured on “The Boundaries of Visual Arts” at MPI Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) recently invited Professor Ma Quan from Visual Communication Design, Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University to give an academic lecture on “The Boundaries of Visual Arts”, through which it carried out so as to effectuate dialogue and exchange with teachers and students from the School of Arts of MPI as well as broadened their new horizons in interdisciplinary arts research.
Macao Orchestra Held its First University Concert at MPI, Commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Beethoven’s Birthday To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, the Macao Orchestra held its first university concert of this season at the Macao Polytechnic Institute. The Macao Orchestra played the masterpieces of Beethoven and attracted over a hundred teachers and students to attend the concert. Mr. Kan Pak Kin conducted the concert and guided teachers and students to appreciate the music. Students were benefited a lot by deepening their understanding of classical music and learning about Beethoven’s legendary life.
Fine arts exhibitions “Watercolour Symphony” and “Printmaking Collection” by MPI’s Visual Arts teachers and students The opening ceremony of the fine arts exhibitions “Watercolour Symphony” and “Exhibition of Printmaking Collection” presented jointly by teachers and students from the Visual Arts Programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), will take place at the Art Gallery – Floor G, the Research and Development Building on the MPI Campus in Taipa, at 17:00 on 30 September 2020. MPI’s Virtual Art Seminar Offering Fresh Insights into Musical Learning The Macao Polytechnic Institute organised a virtual art seminar on “Benefits of Learning Music” by Professor Dai Baisheng on 2 July. The seminar attracted more than 100 registrations.
Opening of “Three Rings and Five Links” joint exhibition by MPI students The “Three Rings and Five Links” joint exhibition by MPI students was opened at the Pavilion of Exhibitions and Artistic Shows for Young People, showcasing their artwork mainly in traditional Chinese painting, pottery and sculpture. The exhibition is jointly exhibited by five students from MPI: CHAN WAI SAN, CHEONG WAN I, CHIO WENG CHONG, LAU WAI MAN and CHAN WENG CHENG.
Online Joint Graduation Exhibition of the Design and Visual Art Programmes of Macao Polytechnic Institute will be launched on May 29th The Joint Graduation Exhibition 2020 – “Revolving” held by the School of Arts of Macao Polytechnic Institute will be launched online starting from May 29th, 2020 on the online platforms of Facebook and Behance. Graduation works from over 80 graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Design and the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art will be shown. With various media and creative forms, the exhibition will demonstrate their outstanding creative achievements throughout the four years of effort and exploration, as well as their enthusiasm and pursuit of art.
MPI Student Film BLACKBEARS Wins Awards in Italy and US With the “Daring, Innovative, Persistent” spirit in perusing dreams, the MPI student documentary BLACKBEARS receives the Best Student Film of New York Movie Awards in the U.S. and the Grand Jury Award of Best Sport Film of Oniros Film Awards in Italy. Initiated as a class project, MPI students HO Ka Wai, LONG Weng Si, SIO Seng Tak and LI Wei have gone the distance and brought this Macao local story to the world stage, conglomerating theory and practice, learning and experience, and academia and techniques fostered by MPI’s distinctive programme of Bachelor of Arts in Design.

The combination of culture, creativity and communities, MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Opens “The MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Activities 2018” hosted by the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre, Macao Polytechnic Institute opened at MPI at 9:30 am on 9th July (Monday). The activity aims to enable secondary school students to utilize their creative talents and hopes to enhance their appreciation of Macao's cultural and creative industry and their artistic abilities. The summer camp activities are popular among the high school students of Macao. Participants said that they have benefited a lot from the activities and they hope to contribute to the Macao cultural and creative industry in the future.

MPI’s Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art Programme Successfully Accredited by HEEACT The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has successfully passed a programme validation exercise by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT), the second bachelor’s degree programme of arts in Macao to be academically accredited after the Institute’s Music programme in 2015. HEEACT, a renowned academic accreditation institution in Asia, announced the review report of this exercise on its website, providing very positive comments on the programme and acknowledging its contribution to the Macao SAR Government’s strategy of developing the city’s cultural and creative industries. HEEACT’s report also commended the programme for its excellent contents, educational resources, support for teaching and learning, as well as quality assurance and enhancement.
MPI Students Achieve Splendid Results in the Brand Packaging Design Competition, Student Wu Jun Wins the Champion Prize
MPI organises Music programme’s graduation concert to exhibit the blossoming of talents MPI’s Bachelor of Arts in Music programme hosted a graduation concert featuring its class of 2017 students on the evening of 12 May. This concert showcases the talents and achievements of the programme’s graduating students and demonstrates the Institute’s outstanding quality of music teaching. Over 40 students and their teachers performed that evening, staging a superb concert for over 200 enthusiastic music lovers who responded with repeated rounds of applause.
MPI’s Associate Professor Dai Baisheng attends the Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macao Forum on Music Education in Schools The Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macao Forum on Music Education in Schools opened on 8 May at the South China Normal University (SCNU). Over a hundred scholars and teachers specialising in music education gathered in Guangzhou to participate in various activities including exchanges, workshops and roundtable discussions to explore the linkage between tertiary music education in training music teachers and its relevance to basic education.

MPI Student’s Artworks have been Selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Exhibition for Three Consecutive Years After receiving “The John Purcell Paper Prize” (Awarded artwork “Mario Night”) in 2015 and “The Leathersellers’ Award” (Awarded artwork “Working Alone”) in 2016, MPI student Filipe Miguel das Dores (Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art, Year 4) has two artworks “Which Payphone is Ringing?” and “Which Mirror Reflects the Ringing Payphone?” selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours 205th Exhibition. Standing out from nearly 2000 artworks, this is the third consecutive year for Filipe to have artworks selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Exhibition. Filipe has shown the high learning standard of Macao Polytechnic Institute, and does credit to Macao.

MPI Student Filipe Miguel das Dores is awarded “The Leathersellers’ Award ” by the RI of Painters in Water Colours Filipe Miguel das Dores (Year 3 student of the Visual Arts Programme) has two artworks selected by the RI of Painters in Water Colours 204th Exhibition, and one of the artworks “Working Alone” has been awarded “The Leathersellers’ Award”. The two artworks are displayed at the Mall Galleries, London between 6th to 16th April, 2016. Warm Congratulations!
MPI Launches Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre The Macao Polytechnic Institute held the Opening Ceremony of the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre on the Gomes campus on the morning of 1 April. The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Alexis Tam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Deputy Director Pu Hailong of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao, Director Sou Chio Fai of the Tertiary Education Services Office, Chairman Leong Heng Teng of the Executive Committee of the Foundation of Cultural Industries, Vice-President Chan Peng Fai of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI. The attendees included scholars, experts and practitioners in cultural and creative industries from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
Lawerence Cheng Encourages Young People to Observe More and have a Bold Attempt Invited by Macao Polytechnic Institute's School of Arts, Lawrence Cheng, one of Hong Kong's major media personalities, chaired a cross-media seminar entitled “Inventor, Creative” on November 4th. He commented that he believed that inspiration comes from our living surroundings, and he advised young people to be observant and grasp what is happening in the world, applying what they see by being bold in their attempts to convert their experiences into creative endeavours.
“A Little While” Exhibition Organised by the School of Arts, 23 Year 4 students of the digital media design programme are hosting a student exhibition with the theme “A Little While”, which features more than 20 pieces of original works in 3D animation, motion graphics and interactive design. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to showcase the fruits of their 4 years of learning before graduation, allowing them to interact with each other and to improve their aesthetic sense and creativity, thus preparing them for professional contributions in the arts and cultural arena.

Joint Solo Exhibition in New York by MPI Professors: Hsu Hsiu Chu & Chen Chiu Jhin Rooted in Macao and facing the world Dr. Hsu Hsiu Chu and Professor Chen Chiu Jhin, Director and Professor of the School of Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) respectively, held a joint solo exhibition in the Gallery of Amerasia Bank, New York from June 19th to 30th.. The exhibition was officially opened after a press conference at 2pm on June 19th, New York time, followed by an opening ceremony at 5pm. Many art lovers and artists attended the exhibition, and apart from rating the exhibits highly they also strongly supported the MPI professors being invited to exhibit in New York.
MPI Music Programme Organises Joint Concerts in Beijing From 20th to 25th May a group of fifteen students and teaching staff from the Bachelor of Arts in Music, School of Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), led by Dr. Hsu Hsiu-Chu and Associate Professor Dai Baisheng, Director of the School of Arts and Music Programme Coordinator respectively, visited three colleges in Beijing, holding joint concerts, first with the Music College of Capital Normal University (CNU) and then with the Central Conservatory Of Music (CCOM).
MPI Music Programme Successfully Accredited by HEEACT Macao’s First Accredited HEI Programme in Creativity The Bachelor of Arts programme in Music, offered by Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), has successfully passed a programme validation exercise by the Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) as announced on the HEEACT website on 31 March 2015. The programme validation exercise acknowledged the quality of the programme and reported significant recognition in areas such as provision of educational resources, support for teaching and learning, international exchange and cooperation, and quality assurance and enhancement.
Cheong Wai Hang of School of Arts Won 2014 ACA World Championship Cheong Wai Hang, a student from the Bachelor of Arts in Design Programme, School of Arts, won the championship of the 2014 Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) World Championship in California, U.S.A. Cheong stood out in the competition with 32 others representing 16 countries and brought home the top prize and became the world champion of the competition. His honour did credit to Macao, as well as to MPI. Cheong mentioned in the interview that, he had acquired good knowledge in Adobe since he enrolled in the Design Programme in the institute, which was the key to his success. In the coming year, he will try his best to learn more and participate in different international competitions related to his discipline.

MPU joins Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Creative Arts Alliance, promoting the cooperation and development in education in the Greater Bay Area

In order to promote communication, collaboration and resource sharing in the field of creative arts in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, while enhancing the level of cooperation in the creative arts among the three places and bringing together the research strengths of elite universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in the field of creative arts, Macao Polytechnic University, Sun Yat-Sen University, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, and The Education University of Hong Kong jointly signed the "Agreement on the Formation of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Creative Arts Alliance" under the framework of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance.

MPU and Sands China Jointly Run The Art Talent Development Showcase to Contribute Toward Macao’s Cultural Tourism Development

To support Macao’s youth policies and facilitate its “1+4” adequate economic diversification development, the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), Sands China Ltd., and the MPU Alumni Association jointly organised an achievement exhibition for the Art Talent Development Showcase at the Lam Kan Exhibition Gallery of MPU to display students’ creative achievements, which received overwhelming responses. MPU's 2024 Open Day showcased outstanding teaching and research achievements with enthusiastic response

The “Macao Polytechnic University Open Day 2024” was held on 6 January and has showcased the characteristics of the University’s educational approach, information on degree programmes, achievements in teaching and research, social services, and achievements as a result of international cooperation. This was done through a series of activities such as degree programme seminars, guidance sessions for further studies, thematic exhibitions, campus tours, workshops, experiential sessions as well as exchange sessions with graduates. The Open Day has attracted nearly 3000 participants, including recent high school graduates, elites, students and parents, making a very lively event.

MPU Student Kwan Hoi Io won the Open Group Grand Champion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao

To encourage students, youngsters and members of the public to express their impressions of marine life through art, and with a view to promoting public awareness on conservation of marine resources, The Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR, the Marine and Water Bureau, the Department of Natural Resources of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, and the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong jointly organised the "Painting the Colorful Ocean, Protecting Our Home – Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Marine Life Drawing Competition 2022”. The competition attracted participation from young students and people from the three regions, with over 6,000 pieces of work submitted. Macao Polytechnic University Student Kwan Hoi Io, a student from the Bachelor of Arts in Design, won the Open Group Grand Champion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao.

MPU welcomes 2,200 new students at the start of the academic year, the Rector sends a message to inherit the spirit of love for the motherland and for Macao

Macao Polytechnic University held the opening ceremony of the 2023/2024 academic year and the first MPU lecture on August 21, to launch a new study journey with 2,200 new students of Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programmes from Macao, the Greater Bay Area, all over the country, as well as Portuguese-speaking countries, and regions overseas. Rector Im Sio Kei expressed his wishes to the freshmen to inherit the spirit of love for the motherland and for Macao, to be the pioneers of the new era, to contribute wisdom and strength to the construction of the country and Macao.

The Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2023, attracting over 500 entries from universities across Asia, took place at the THE Asia Universities Summit in Hong Kong on 21 June 2023. Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) was one of the eight finalists for the Award of “Excellence and Innovation in the Arts”. Its innovation in research and teaching of the arts has been recognised internationally.

MPU Holds 2023 Graduation Ceremony with Over 800 Graduates Embark on a New Journey

The Macao Polytechnic University Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2022/2023 was held at 4:00 pm on May 31st at the university's multi-sport pavilion. The national flag was raised and the national anthem was sung at the graduation ceremony. More than 800 students from doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree programs graduated. At the ceremony, honorary doctoral degrees were awarded to individuals who have made outstanding academic achievements and significant contributions to social and educational development. Ms. Ao Ieong U, representative of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region and chancellor of University Council, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, expressed that the SAR government will continue to support the university's commitment to the education policy of "dual emphasis on teaching and research", cultivate more outstanding talents for Macao and the country, and create better scientific research results.

MPU Design Programme Teaching Achievement Exhibition

In order to cultivate students' creative thinking and show the characteristics of the course, the Faculty of Art and Design of Macao Polytechnic University recently held the opening of the "Space and Structure Teaching Achievement Exhibition", exhibiting the creative works of 91 students of the Bachelor of Design programme, demonstrating the collaborative teaching outcomes of the disciplines of space and structure. The works showcased were full of whimsy and imagination.

MPI held Exam Gas Station to Give Encouragement and Warmth to Students

Organised by the Student Affairs Office and Student Union of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the "Exam Gas Station" was recently held before the final exams of the first semester. The event created a harmonious, mutually supportive and encouraging campus atmosphere which assisted in helping students to release some of their stress and transmit positivity among students. Students took photos in front of the blessings wall backdrop, while the Student Union distributed refreshing beverages and heart-warming gifts to participants through mini games. But the sincerest blessings were given to students through musical performances. In addition, the Lunch Music Salon, performed by students from the Music Programme, was held to relax students’ bodies and minds with beautiful vocal solos and various musical instrument solos including the flute, Zhongruan, trombone and marimba.

MPI and Sands China Launch Talent Development Programme

In order to enhance the competitiveness of higher education students and young people, as well as develop their career planning, the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Sands China and the Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association jointly launched the “Art Talent Development Showcase Programme”, whose objectives are to stimulate higher education students’ creative thinking, enhance their practical skills, promote talent development and lay a solid foundation for their future career planning. The opening ceremony took place on 12 November at the Adelson Advanced Education Centre, Venetian Macao. The President of Macao Polytechnic Institute, Im Sio Kei, the President of Sands China Ltd, Wilfred Wong, and the President of the Board of the Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association, Wong U Kei, among others, were present at the event and presided over the opening ceremony.

Macao Orchestra Holds Its First University Concert “Rhythm of Tango” at MPI

The Macao Orchestra recently held its first university concert of the season "Rhythm of Tango" at Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), bringing a wonderful musical feast to teachers and students alike this autumn. Under the leadership of the orchestra conductor, Jian Baijian, the Macao Orchestra vividly presented world classics such as “Quatro, para Tango”, “Por uma Cabeça”, “Adiós Nonino”, “Underground Tango”, “Danzas Latinoamericanas”, etc. In addition, the conductor also guided the audience into the world of classical music to gain artistic nourishment by giving an appreciation of the beautiful pieces. The concert attracted more than 150 teachers and students to attend with enthusiastic responses.

Bringing the New: Joint Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition of Year 3, Visual Programme, MPI

The opening ceremony of the "Joint Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition of Visual Arts Programme, Macao Polytechnic Institute", themed "GYBE", was held by the Visual Arts Programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI). The exhibition comprises 20 pieces of modern and contemporary art works with various art forms, created by junior (year 3) students of Macao Polytechnic Institute, including installations, immersive art, conceptual art as well as graphic works. This is a new milestone for our institute.

MPI Held Lunch Choral Salon to infuse the Campus with Positivity

To deepen the cultural and artistic environment in the campus, create a relaxing and joyful learning environment, and to promote the healthy growth of students, the Student Affairs Office of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organized the Lunch Choral Salon in the lobby of Meng Tak Building at the institute. The event was held to infuse positive energy into the campus and to demonstrate the results of the teaching singing to the audience. Everyone enjoyed the warm and lively atmosphere of the show.

On 26 February 2021, the renowned painting and calligraphy artist Cui Ruzhuo visited the School of Arts of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and was warmly welcomed by MPI President Im Sio Kei. The artist, as well as other guests of honour, discussed cordially and interacted with teachers and students in a lively atmosphere.

Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) recently invited Professor Ma Quan from Visual Communication Design, Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University to give an academic lecture on “The Boundaries of Visual Arts”, through which it carried out so as to effectuate dialogue and exchange with teachers and students from the School of Arts of MPI as well as broadened their new horizons in interdisciplinary arts research.

Macao Orchestra Held its First University Concert at MPI, Commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Beethoven’s Birthday

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, the Macao Orchestra held its first university concert of this season at the Macao Polytechnic Institute. The Macao Orchestra played the masterpieces of Beethoven and attracted over a hundred teachers and students to attend the concert. Mr. Kan Pak Kin conducted the concert and guided teachers and students to appreciate the music. Students were benefited a lot by deepening their understanding of classical music and learning about Beethoven’s legendary life.

The “Three Rings and Five Links” joint exhibition by MPI students was opened at the Pavilion of Exhibitions and Artistic Shows for Young People, showcasing their artwork mainly in traditional Chinese painting, pottery and sculpture. The exhibition is jointly exhibited by five students from MPI: CHAN WAI SAN, CHEONG WAN I, CHIO WENG CHONG, LAU WAI MAN and CHAN WENG CHENG.

The Joint Graduation Exhibition 2020 – “Revolving” held by the School of Arts of Macao Polytechnic Institute will be launched online starting from May 29th, 2020 on the online platforms of Facebook and Behance. Graduation works from over 80 graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Design and the Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art will be shown. With various media and creative forms, the exhibition will demonstrate their outstanding creative achievements throughout the four years of effort and exploration, as well as their enthusiasm and pursuit of art.

MPI Student Film BLACKBEARS Wins Awards in Italy and US

With the “Daring, Innovative, Persistent” spirit in perusing dreams, the MPI student documentary BLACKBEARS receives the Best Student Film of New York Movie Awards in the U.S. and the Grand Jury Award of Best Sport Film of Oniros Film Awards in Italy. Initiated as a class project, MPI students HO Ka Wai, LONG Weng Si, SIO Seng Tak and LI Wei have gone the distance and brought this Macao local story to the world stage, conglomerating theory and practice, learning and experience, and academia and techniques fostered by MPI’s distinctive programme of Bachelor of Arts in Design.

MPI’s Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art Programme Successfully Accredited by HEEACT

The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has successfully passed a programme validation exercise by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT), the second bachelor’s degree programme of arts in Macao to be academically accredited after the Institute’s Music programme in 2015. HEEACT, a renowned academic accreditation institution in Asia, announced the review report of this exercise on its website, providing very positive comments on the programme and acknowledging its contribution to the Macao SAR Government’s strategy of developing the city’s cultural and creative industries. HEEACT’s report also commended the programme for its excellent contents, educational resources, support for teaching and learning, as well as quality assurance and enhancement.

After receiving “The John Purcell Paper Prize” (Awarded artwork “Mario Night”) in 2015 and “The Leathersellers’ Award” (Awarded artwork “Working Alone”) in 2016, MPI student Filipe Miguel das Dores (Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art, Year 4) has two artworks “Which Payphone is Ringing?” and “Which Mirror Reflects the Ringing Payphone?” selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours 205th Exhibition. Standing out from nearly 2000 artworks, this is the third consecutive year for Filipe to have artworks selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Exhibition. Filipe has shown the high learning standard of Macao Polytechnic Institute, and does credit to Macao.

Filipe Miguel das Dores (Year 3 student of the Visual Arts Programme) has two artworks selected by the RI of Painters in Water Colours 204th Exhibition, and one of the artworks “Working Alone” has been awarded “The Leathersellers’ Award”. The two artworks are displayed at the Mall Galleries, London between 6th to 16th April, 2016. Warm Congratulations!

MPI Launches Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre

The Macao Polytechnic Institute held the Opening Ceremony of the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre on the Gomes campus on the morning of 1 April. The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Alexis Tam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Deputy Director Pu Hailong of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao, Director Sou Chio Fai of the Tertiary Education Services Office, Chairman Leong Heng Teng of the Executive Committee of the Foundation of Cultural Industries, Vice-President Chan Peng Fai of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI. The attendees included scholars, experts and practitioners in cultural and creative industries from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.

Lawerence Cheng Encourages Young People to Observe More and have a Bold Attempt

Invited by Macao Polytechnic Institute's School of Arts, Lawrence Cheng, one of Hong Kong's major media personalities, chaired a cross-media seminar entitled “Inventor, Creative” on November 4th. He commented that he believed that inspiration comes from our living surroundings, and he advised young people to be observant and grasp what is happening in the world, applying what they see by being bold in their attempts to convert their experiences into creative endeavours.

“A Little While” Exhibition

Organised by the School of Arts, 23 Year 4 students of the digital media design programme are hosting a student exhibition with the theme “A Little While”, which features more than 20 pieces of original works in 3D animation, motion graphics and interactive design. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to showcase the fruits of their 4 years of learning before graduation, allowing them to interact with each other and to improve their aesthetic sense and creativity, thus preparing them for professional contributions in the arts and cultural arena.

Joint Solo Exhibition in New York by MPI Professors: Hsu Hsiu Chu & Chen Chiu Jhin

Rooted in Macao and facing the world Dr. Hsu Hsiu Chu and Professor Chen Chiu Jhin, Director and Professor of the School of Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) respectively, held a joint solo exhibition in the Gallery of Amerasia Bank, New York from June 19th to 30th.. The exhibition was officially opened after a press conference at 2pm on June 19th, New York time, followed by an opening ceremony at 5pm. Many art lovers and artists attended the exhibition, and apart from rating the exhibits highly they also strongly supported the MPI professors being invited to exhibit in New York.

MPI Music Programme Organises Joint Concerts in Beijing

From 20th to 25th May a group of fifteen students and teaching staff from the Bachelor of Arts in Music, School of Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), led by Dr. Hsu Hsiu-Chu and Associate Professor Dai Baisheng, Director of the School of Arts and Music Programme Coordinator respectively, visited three colleges in Beijing, holding joint concerts, first with the Music College of Capital Normal University (CNU) and then with the Central Conservatory Of Music (CCOM).

Macao’s First Accredited HEI Programme in Creativity

The Bachelor of Arts programme in Music, offered by Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), has successfully passed a programme validation exercise by the Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) as announced on the HEEACT website on 31 March 2015. The programme validation exercise acknowledged the quality of the programme and reported significant recognition in areas such as provision of educational resources, support for teaching and learning, international exchange and cooperation, and quality assurance and enhancement.

Cheong Wai Hang of School of Arts Won 2014 ACA World Championship

Cheong Wai Hang, a student from the Bachelor of Arts in Design Programme, School of Arts, won the championship of the 2014 Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) World Championship in California, U.S.A. Cheong stood out in the competition with 32 others representing 16 countries and brought home the top prize and became the world champion of the competition. His honour did credit to Macao, as well as to MPI. Cheong mentioned in the interview that, he had acquired good knowledge in Adobe since he enrolled in the Design Programme in the institute, which was the key to his success. In the coming year, he will try his best to learn more and participate in different international competitions related to his discipline.
