Delegation of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China visited the Macao Polytechnic Institute
Research team from the Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence, Ministry of Education (CAI) introduced the research achievements obtained by the Centre to Xu Yongji, Executive Deputy Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and Li Qiang, Deputy Head of the Department of College Students Affairs of the Ministry of Education

On 17 January 2021, Xu Yongji, Executive Deputy Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and Li Qiang, Deputy Head of the Department of College Students Affairs of the Ministry of Education, visited the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and were warmly welcomed by MPI President Im Sio Kei. Both sides discussed cordially and exchanged views on talent cultivation, teaching and research, etc. Xu Yongji and Li Qiang encouraged MPI to continue to leverage its unique characteristics and advantages, proactively integrate into the national development, enhance the talents and research level, and play the role of platform and link between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

During the meeting, Im Sio Kei sincerely welcomed the delegation from the Ministry of Education, thanked the Ministry of Education for its continuous support to MPI, and introduced to the guests MPI’s characteristics, research development and talent cultivation. Xu Yongji and Li Qiang recognized the characteristics of MPI and the achievements of talent cultivation, and praised MPI's philosophy of “taking root in Macao, being backed by the motherland, facing the world and striving for excellence”, as well as the cultivation of a large number of applied talents for the social and economic development of Macao. Furthermore, Xu Yongji encouraged MPI to give full play to its strengths, seize the opportunities and proactively participate in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, further improve the standard of education and the quality of talents, and leverage the role of a platform and link for exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. Li Qiang encouraged MPI to continue to carry out application-oriented scientific research in order to achieve more results at the application level and to make more contributions at the theoretical level.

During the visit, the delegation visited The Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence, Ministry of Education (CAI) and listened to the presentation of the scientific research projects and the results obtained by the Centre. The delegation recognized the achievements obtained by the Centre in the first year of its establishment.
