Promote patriotism, love for Macao, and resilience

During the opening ceremony, Im Sio Kei, President of the Macao Polytechnic Institute stated that the novel coronavirus pandemic has swept the whole world this year and posed great challenges to our life. The students have come to attend the opening ceremony against all odds, and they deserved much applause.

In his speech, Professor Im also reported on the remarkable achievements MPI has achieved in teaching and research in recent years. These achievements include the establishment of the Ministry of Education’s very first engineering research centre in the Hong Kong and Macao region; being Macao’s first tertiary institute to have passed the academic evaluation exercise conducted by the authoritative QAA from the UK; Macao’s first and only university to be awarded the Ministry of Education’s “National Teaching Achievement Award” held every four years; winning China’s National Science and Technology Progress Award and being our country’s only university to have twice won the “Asia-Pacific Education Quality Award”  issued by the Asia-Pacific Quality Network.

Seize opportunities of the Greater-Bay and contribute to the country

Im Sio Kei also called on all freshman students for a mission. Currently, both Macao and our motherland are standing at a critical juncture of development, and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has offered our young students in Macao unprecedented opportunities to confront adversities and face challenges in the learning process and personal growth. Professor Im hoped that all students could work hard to broaden their horizons and equip themselves with knowledge, to carry on with MPI members’ spirit of optimism, resilience, and unity, and to contribute all their expertise to the construction of Macao and the country.

Proactively learn knowledge and shoulder social responsibility

The Faculty member Wang Yuying put forward to the new students several sincere expectations. It is hoped that they will actively learn the professional knowledge; equip themselves with knowledge; strengthen their willpower, enhance their capabilities and efficiency; that they will read more widely and more good books; and that they will cultivate a sense of social responsibility. Professor Wang thus encouraged all new students to live up to their youth and shoulder the social mission bestowed upon them.

Pass on positive messages to create a better life
