MPI Organises the Online Lectures on “Scientific Promotion for Youth” in the Summer

In order to enhance youth’s interest in science and encourage them to actively participate in scientific activities, this summer the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) is offering online lectures on “Scientific Promotion for Youth” to explain the contents related to cosmetics and personal care products, food safety, food-drug interaction, and tests for the novel coronavirus, etc., to introduce youth to the interesting science in everyday life. Interested parties are welcome to register free of charge on a first come, first served basis.

There are four online lectures on “Scientific Promotion for Youth”. “Deconstructing the mystery of cosmetics” by Professor Tong Hoi Yee, Programme Coordinator of Biomedical Technology, introduces common cosmetics with high-quality medical evidence; “Food safety: excessive bacteria content?!” by Dr. Lei Un Fan, Associate Professor of Biomedical Technology, presents the detection principle, analysis method, detection limit and application of bacteria in food or environmental samples in microbiological analysis of public health; “Pay attention to ‘food’ and ‘drug’: the influence of diet on drugs” by Dr. Lao Cheng Kin, Assistant Programme Coordinator of Speech-Language Therapy and Associate Professor of Biomedical Technology, answers the frequently asked questions about the interaction between diet and drugs, and provides relevant professional suggestions; “Test methods and significance of novel coronavirus” by Dr. Ye Qianhong, Assistant Programme Coordinator of Biomedical Technology, explains the new coronavirus test methods, nucleic acid detection and collection methods, the role of antibody detection test, etc.

Two majors including medical laboratory technology and pharmacy technology are provided by the biomedical technology programme of MPI. The programme has trained a large number of medical laboratory technicians, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy technical assistants and scientific research technicians for the Macao SAR Government over the years. The programme has a strong teaching team with complete school facilities, including a chemistry and physics laboratory, biology laboratory, molecular biology laboratory and so on. The programme has passed the academic review by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), Portugal, and its teaching quality adheres to international standards.

The online lectures on “Scientific Promotion for Youth” will be held at 8 pm every night from August 10 to 13. The registration period is from now to August 9.
