Tertiary Education Services Office and Macao Polytechic Institute Jointly Organise the World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Contest

To enhance the exchange on Chinese-Portuguese translation techniques between students of higher education institutions in the world, to train Chinese-Portuguese translation professionals, and to further promote the application of the advances in Chinese-Portuguese translation teaching and research in Macao, the Chinese Mainland and the Lusophone countries along the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, the Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES) and Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) jointly organised the World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Contest with Language Big Data Alliance as supporting unit.

The World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Contest press conference was held on 28 November at 15:00 at MPI. The press conference was officiated by Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of Tertiary Education Services Office, Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI, Professor Marcus Im, Vice President of MPI, Dr. Liu Yue, Representative of Language Big Data Alliance and Professor Li Changsen, team leader of the academic group of the competition, to introduce the regulations and details of the competition.

The World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Contest welcomes students from Macao higher education institutions, universities affiliated with the LBDA, higher education institutions in Portuguese-speaking countries or other countries/regions that offers Chinese-Portuguese translation, translation or related degree programme to join. Each team is composed of two to three students and each team can have one coach, in which the students and coach should be from the same higher education institution. Each team is required to translate the Chinese source texts provided by the oganiser, which contain at least 10,000 sentences from either articles or books. Please email the complete registration form and email it to WCPTC@ipm.edu.mo by 31 January 2017 before 5 p.m. The champion will receive a cash award of MOP 100,000 and the coach will receive MOP30,000; the second prize winner will receive a cash award of MOP80,000 and the coach will receive MOP25,000; the third prize winner will receive a cash award of MOP50,000 and the coach will receive MOP20,000. In order to encourage students from Macao higher education institutions to participate, all local teams are automatically eligible to compete for the “Special Awards for Teams of Macao Higher Education Institutions”. The champion will have a cash award of MOP50,000 and the coach will receive MOP18,000; the second prize winner will receive a cash award of MOP25,000 and the coach will receive MOP10,000.
