MPI to Hold International Conference on ‘The New Frontiers of Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance in Higher Education’

The International Conference on‘The New Frontiers of Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance in Higher Education’, organised by Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and co-organised by the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN), will be held at MPI on 23-24 November 2016. The conference will feature keynote speeches by Professor Jianxin Zhang, President of APQN as well as Dr Jagannath Patil, its Immediate Past President; Professor Alberto Amaral, President of the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), Portugal; Ms Maureen McLaughlin, Head of University & Standards of The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, UK and Dr Pauline Tang, Vice President of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education, on various issues related to teaching and learning quality and the latest developments in Quality Assurance.


This two-day conference will consist of presentations of more than 20 papers by academics and experts coming from countries and regions such as the UK, Portugal, Australia, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao on the following conference themes: theories and practices of teaching and learning quality assurance systems, deep learning, outcome-based approach to teaching and learning, student evaluation of teachers (SET) and teacher self-evaluation (TSE), voice of students to enhance teaching effectiveness, quality assurance framework to safeguard and enhance international student experience, use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in teaching and learning enhancement, contention between teaching and research in higher education, and case studies of teaching and learning quality assurance in higher education with special reference to the Asia-Pacific region. This conference is a good platform for participants to learn about the latest trends of international quality assurance and best practices of international institutions, thereby promoting the advancement of the quality of higher education in Macao.


The conference opening and keynote sessions will commence at 2:30pm on 23 November 2016 in Lecture Theatre 1 on the first floor of MPI’s Wui Chi Building. The conference will also feature a number of parallel sessions and an invited talk by industry experts. Academics, quality assurance personnel and other interested parties are welcome to attend.
