“A Little While” Exhibition

Organised by the School of Arts, 23 Year 4 students of the digital media design programme are hosting a student exhibition with the theme “A Little While”, which features more than 20 pieces of original works in 3D animation, motion graphics and interactive design. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to showcase the fruits of their 4 years of learning before graduation, allowing them to interact with each other and to improve their aesthetic sense and creativity, thus preparing them for professional contributions in the arts and cultural arena.

Hosted by Mr. Chao Sio Leong, Director General of Macau Designers Association, Professor Hsiu-Chu Hsu, Director of School of Arts, Associate Professor Patrick Lei, Programme Coordinator of the Design programme, Mr. Sun Yan, Lecturer in Multimedia, and Ms. Lai Mei Kei, the opening ceremony of the exhibition was held in the afternoon of November 4th (Wednesday).  Mr. Sun, organiser of this exhibition, stated that in the past only the works which students had produced in Year 4 were put on display at graduation exhibitions. This year there was an innovative twist as students’ creative works in Year 3 were displayed as well, so as to inspire them to design each of their future creations more diligently through exploring the differences and areas for improvement from their past works. The venue decoration, collateral design and promotional tasks of this exhibition were all carried out by students who spent last month working very hard to put the event together. Each piece of work marks the fruit of relentless effort and lessons learnt from failures. For these students this experience is certainly not something to be gained “in a little while”.

In her speech, Professor Hsiu-Chu Hsu expressed how pleased she was to see the improvements in the quality of the students' work, and that she understood profoundly the amount of time and effort the students had dedicated to manifest their own creations. She hoped that in the future the exhibition would feature not just the design works of her students but that it would be transformed into a cinema where they could host a premiere screening of their own documentaries for the general public; in this way MPI students would gain more public recognition and support and more people would also learn to appreciate original works of art. She hoped that students would enjoy this exhibition and continue to produce excellent works of art.

Students' works will be displayed at the Meng Tak Building Exhibition Hall of Macao Polytechnic Institute until 14 November.
