MPI Open Day 2015 a Great Success

The “MPI Open Day 2015” was held on 28 February 2015 on the main campus of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), showcasing the Institute’s values, objectives, course development, professional facilities, research standards and learning resources. More than 2,000 visitors experienced MPI’s campus life with fun games and activities, campus tours, a fitness test, art workshop, nursing presentation, experimental demonstration and various performances. MPI, the first higher education institution in Macao which has undergone a successful institutional review conducted by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, is now welcoming secondary school graduates and all people having the dedication to pursue learning to enroll on its degree programmes.

The opening ceremony started at 14:45 in the Auditorium. Ms. Cen Jiayi, Assistant of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR, Mr. Chan Ka Ho, Acting Deputy Director of the Tertiary Education Services Office, Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI, Mr Chan Heng U, President of MPI Student Union and Mr Wong U Kei, President of MPI Alumni Association, representatives from different secondary schools and a large number of secondary students and parents attended the ceremony.

President Lei Heong Iok thanked the Macao Government, secondary schools, students and parents for their continuous support for MPI, enabling MPI to consistently maintain a very high number of applicants for our programmes. President Lei also announced two pieces of good news: with the great support of the Macao Government, MPI will build a “new building” approximating to the scale of the “Meng Tak building” on the main campus, and will make use of the Government-granted part of the “former site of University of Macao” to make more student hostels, and to create a better environment for the teaching of Portuguese, gaming and cultural creativity, and for research centers. When faced with challenges MPI always copes with changes by sticking to our fundamental principles, which are to improve ourselves, grasp opportunities and enhance MPI’s overall competitiveness, so as to nurture skills and talents of an international standard.

A group of Form-6 students who visited the MPI main campus commented that they had been able to learn more about the curriculum of their preferred programmes during the Open Day and believed that MPI would be their first choice to proceed with their tertiary studies.

MPI is now recruiting students for the academic year 2015/2016.
