Alexandra Assis Rosa is tenured Assistant Professor of English Linguistics (since 2004), Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, FLUL (since 2016), and nominated member of the School’s Scientific Council (2019). 

Academic degrees: She holds the Portuguese postdoctoral title “Agregação” in Translation Studies (2016); a doctoral degree “Doutoramento” in Translation Studies (2004); an MA “Mestrado” in German Literature (1995); and a first degree “Licenciatura” in Modern Languages and Literatures – English and German Studies (1989).

Teaching: She teaches Media, Scientific and Technical Translation, English Linguistics and Discourse Analysis at graduate level, as well as Translation Studies, Translation and Text Linguistics, Translation and Applied Linguistics, Audiovisual Translation, and Research Methodologies at post-graduate level.

Supervision: She has supervised post-doctoral (2), doctoral (12), and Masters projects (13).

Research: As a senior researcher of the University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies, ULICES/CEAUL (since 1997), her main areas of research are Descriptive Translation Studies, English Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, and Discourse Analysis. Within Translation Studies her research focuses mainly on translation norms in both literary and media translation, indirect translation and retranslation.

Research projects: Coordinator of the lecture series ETC… Talks on Translation Studies (2011-); PI ULICES Research Group on Reception and Translation Studies (2007-19); Co-PI “Intercultural Literature in Portugal (1930-2000): A Critical Bibliography” (2007-18); PI IndirecTrans1 (2013-14); Adviser IndirecTrans2 (2015-18) and IndirecTrans3 (2018-20); International Research Project MUST - Multilingual Student Translation, Univ. Louvain, Belgium (2017-); International research project Literatura Mundo: Perspectivas em Português (2011-18); Voice in Translation international Research Group, Oslo Univ. (2010-17); RG Transmedia Portugal (2010-16).

Publications: Her publications focus on translation theory and methodology, the translation of forms of address and linguistic variation in fiction, censorship in translation, reader profiling, indirect translation and retranslation. Her more than 70 publications encompass books (2), edited volumes/special issues (12), articles in peer-reviewed international and indexed journals (15), book chapters (29), among others
