Terms of Academic Appointment


Gneral Information for Academic Staff

 I. Terms Of Appointment
 
The appointment shall be for a period of one or two years basis, extended or renewed subject to mutual agreement, by period of one or two years.
II. School Affiliation
 
All members of the teaching staff  will be assigned to one of the six constituent Schools of the Institute, viz. School of Languages and Translation, School of Business, School of Public Administration, School of Physical Education and Sports, School of Arts, and School of Health Sciences.
III. Duties
  (a)
The academic staff shall be responsible to the Institute’s Management Board or to a designated Director of School, for duties such as are indicated by the entitlement of  the appointment and/or such other concurrent appointments and duties within your capability as may be specified from time to time by Director of School, who may, at the request of the Co-ordinator, assign the academic staff  to teach certain courses in that school subject to the normal teaching load not being exceeded.
  (b)
An appointee shall be required to carry a normal load of 36 contact hours per week and be responsible for syllabus preparation, lecturing, tutorial, supervision of laboratories (where applicable), invigilation and examination grading.
IV. Salary
  Salaries are payable monthly. The current salary scale for the following posts are:

The salary level will be determined according to the appointee’s academic qualifications, higher education teaching and/or professional experience.  The current local income tax rate ranges from 7% to 12%.  (US$1.00 approx. = MOP8.00)
V. Medical Benefit
 
Staff shall be entitled to specific medical benefits as provided by the Government Health Department and Kiangwu Hospital, subject to payment of 0.5% on his/her salary.
VI. Leave
  (a) Annual Leave
Academic Staff are entitled to 22 working days of annual leave in each academic year.
  (b) Marriage Leave
An unmarried appointee shall be entitled  up to 10 working days of marriage leave.
  (c) Maternity Leave
A female married appointee shall be entitled to 90 days of maternity leave.
  (d) Paternity Leave
A male married appointee shall be entitled to 5 working days of paternity leave.
  (e) Other Leave
Sick Leave, Funeral Leave, No-paid Leave and etc., which may be granted at the discretion of the Institute.
VII. Housing Allowance
 
A monthly housing allowance of MOP1,000 will be payable to an eligible appointee for acquiring or renting a residential property in Macao for one’s own lodging during employment with the Institute.
VIII. Family Subsidies
 
An eligible appointee shall be provided with family subsidy for descendant and ascendant/spouse dependants, with a respective allowance of MOP220 and MOP170 per month, subject to presentation of confirmed documents.
IX. Provident Fund
 
The participant should be the one being formally employed at least one year and has applied and gained the permission to join the Fund.
X. Outside Practice
 
An appointee who wishes to engage in outside practice or consultancy will have to obtain prior approval from the Institute.
XI. Retirement
 
The normal retirement age is 65 years. Appointment however may be extended beyond the normal retirement age subject to approval of the Institute’s Management Board and Secretary for Social Affairs & Culture.
XII. Termination of Service
 
The notice period from either party for terminating the service agreement is normally two months.  Shortfall of notice period may be made up by payment of salary in lieu.  The notice of termination of the academic staff must be timed to take effect after having completed the teaching and examination commitments including invigilation for the semester in which such resignation takes place.  The Institute may terminate the appointment without written notice or payment in lieu of notice if the appointee is convicted in any criminal proceedings for an offence which the Management Board considers to be of such serious nature, so as to bring the Institute into disrepute or to bring discredit to the Institute.
