It is my great honour to be awarded the MPI Teaching Excellence Award after 10 years of teaching here at the Institute. My deepest gratitude goes to the Institute, and to the Director, Programme Coordinator and colleagues of the School of Health Sciences. I would also like to thank my students for their support, smiling faces and desire for knowledge – these are what motivated me in teaching.

Nursing is a practical subject. Apart from teaching professional skills, a nursing teacher must also nurture students’ concern for patients and critical thinking. As such, a teacher must never cease enriching his or her own knowledge. This is the only way to quality teaching.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the School for providing a series of training programmes for us. We received “Objective Structure Clinical Examination”(OSCE) training in Taiwan, which allowed us to set more objective and impartial assessment standards for nursing skill examinations. I also took the distance learning course, “Enhancing Learning & Teaching”, offered by Queen Mary University of London. On the course I learned education theory, e-learning, blended learning, flipped class, clicker in a systematic way. We also applied SimMan in teaching third and fourth year students.

The class observation system is a great platform for teachers to learn from each other. Through class observation, I learned how to encourage student participation and self-learning in order to further tap their potentials.

I am honoured to be a teacher at the School of Health Sciences. I will continue to love and care for my students. Together we will continue to work for a quality nursing programme. Together we will train more nursing expertise for the local community.
