Programme outline 課程簡介
The programme consists of core, supplementary and practical subjects which cover a wide range of topics and approaches; historical studies to contemporary perspectives are emphasised on teaching those subjects. Varies topics and approaches in performance and education major cover cultural and historical studies, application of technology as well as theoretical and practical emphasis and so on.

The objectives of the Programme are:
1. To deepen students' understanding of the functions, concepts, structures and values of music.
2. To train students to think independently and to work creatively and intelligently towards their own music field of interest.

What will you be expected to achieve? 期望達到的成效
All the staff members are committed to help the students to reach a high level of musical and intellectual standard through their studies. Students who graduate from the course will be able to apply their ability and intelligence on their teaching and performing career. The course provides the students not only to teach or to perform instruments, but also to achieve positions that related to musical and cultural areas, such as arts management in organisations, administrative staff in cultural departments or even work as a full time and part time composer.

How will you learn? 如何學習
Through class learning (lecture, discussion, presentation etc.), outdoor learning (participation in music concerts, as audience or performer), seminars and workshops on special topics given by experts, internship, etc. Every year, some students are sent to Taiwan for exchange. Also, teachers are available for tutorship (6 hours per week) apart from their regular 12 class hours per week. Students are encouraged to participate in performances and competitions to broaden their learning scope.
How will you be assessed? 如何評核
Teachers set the assessment criteria in accordance with the characteristics of each subject and the guidelines provided by the School. Theory courses are assessed by written examinations and reports while assessment for the practical courses requires students to perform 2?3 music pieces or to present their final assignments for each subject at the end of every semester. Upon the assessment by the teachers, results are sent to the examination boards for discussion, and eventually sent to the external examiners for approval. Moreover, external professional examiners also participate in the assessment of every performance examination and graduation thesis. The weights of their marks given are respectively 50%.

What are the entry requirements? 入學條件
1.

Secondary School Graduates(Form 6), or According to article 28 of the Higher Education Law of RAEM, article nº9, applicants of age 25 or above and with special ability conditions, need not comply with the above mentioned point 1. Upon successful completion of the entrance examination, the applicant will be eligible to further his/her studies in a higher diploma programme offered by MPI. All those who complete 25 years of age before September 1st will also be eligible to participate in the entrance examination..

(Note: According to article 4 of Decree‐Law 26/2003, the participants who have completed their secondary studies out of Macao, need the recognition of MPI’s Academic Qualification Recognition Committee before they are eligible to register.)

2. Have passed the entry examination (interview with music performance and exam with music theory).
How do we listen and act on your feedback? 如何聽取及回應學生的回饋
1. Staff‐Student Dialogue Session (institutional level, school level, programme level) in which responses are given to the questions and feedback from students; the programme will also follow up the related issues.
2. Every class has one full time teacher as tutor who collects the suggestions from students and helps students to resolve problem.
3. There are two student representatives from each class; they are responsible in facilitating the communication and coordination between the students and teachers. Besides, elected students can participate in the programme meeting, so that they can express their requests and know the answer and plans of programme.

Every year, we invite renowned scholars and musicians to give seminars, master class or workshops in our school. These activities besides regular classes extend the academic and artistic views of students. Every new student can get one handbook of music programme, which includes all programme‐specific rules, for instance: Guidelines for the Examination of the Course of “Music Performance Skills”, Guidelines for “Graduation Concert”, Guidelines for the writing of graduate thesis, and so on.
Support for disabled students 殘疾學生支援
Macao Polytechnic Institute has in place an institution wide policy to ensure that all student needs are taken care of and a supportive and accessible learning environment is maintained. When cases of special needs are notified or identified, special arrangements are made on a case by case basis with the joint effort of the programme and several student support services of the Institute, such as the Registry, the Student Affairs Office, the Computer Services Centre, etc. to provide the necessary support.

The programme has a close relationship with the primary and secondary schools, music association, art organisations and government department, which can provide opportunities of practicum and teaching internship to the current students. Considerate number of graduates has become music teachers, applying and utilising what they have learnt. There is also a considerate number of them setting up personal studios and offering private lessons every year. Our programme also refers students who are looking to study aboard or for jobs in music field.
