To broaden the horizon of higher education students, MPI organised 15 students from various degree programmes to go to Chongqing recently to participate in a one-and-a-half-month internship programme, with the purpose of allowing students to better plan for their career in the future and increase their competitiveness in employment. The Chongqing Summer Internship Programme 2016 was organised by Chongqing Provincial Human Resources and Social Security Department.

MPI Student Affairs Office, the organiser of this activity, reported that the participating students were from the programmes of Accounting, Visual Arts, Management, Chinese-Portuguese Interpretation and Translation, Chinese-English Interpretation and Translation, Computing, Marketing, E-commerce and Public Relations. In keeping with the students' majors or areas of interest, they were assigned to different companies or organisations such as Southwest Securities, Changjiang Securities, Chongqing Three Gorges Bank, Zhongshang Technology Co., Ltd., Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, Chongqing Sichuan Opera Theatre, Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, Chongqing Science and Technology Museum, Red Star Macalline International Home Furnishing Expo Co., Ltd. and Bank of Chongqing.

Participating students were pleased to “apply their knowledge”, “learn some practical skills” and “increase the understanding behind the scenes” during the internship and they felt that “the completion of each job is not easy”. Overall, the students concluded that the internship programme “was worthwhile”, they “learned the rigorous working attitude”, developed “positive attitude and team-spirit”, learned to “understand which area to strengthen for self-capacity through practice” and became “more confident for future career planning”.

After having completed the internship, MPI students were arranged by the Chongqing organizer to visit the world cultural and natural heritage in Chongqing to have an in-depth experience of the unique culture of Chongqing and make friends with students from Hong Kong and Mainland China. These kinds of activities coloured their internship experience and became their precious memories.

The Student Affairs Office expressed that MPI, by organising different types of internship programmes, hopes to enable students to enrich the understanding of the operation of different industries and at the same time encourages students to pursue an internship in Mainland China and Overseas and through cross-cultural communication to broaden their horizons and enhance their competitiveness in employment.
