“Gain the Confidence You Need to Succeed! Moving Life Forward!” – MPI Careers Day 2016

The Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic Institute organized“Careers Day 2016”on 19th January 2016, with 38 organizations providing more than 1,000 vacancies and expecting to attract more than 1,200 visitors and graduating students to register.

“Gain the Confidence You Need to Succeed! Moving Life Forward!”was the theme of MPI Careers Day 2016. Activities for Careers Day included employment promotions and exhibitions, careers talks, online job publications, enterprise visits etc. Participating organizations were from fields including government departments, banks, hotels and gambling, F&B and retailing, information and technology, human resources, real estate agents and integrating enterprises. Also representatives from the media, Chinese-Portuguese interpretation service, non-profit social enterprises and sports enterprises participated for the first time. The themes of the careers talks covered the civil service, financial services, hotel services, facilities research and information systems.

At the event's Opening ceremony, Professor Yin Lei, Vice President of Macao Polytechnic Institute, said that the Institute had cultivated a large number of talents over the years through their “student-centred, nurturing students' whole-person development” educational philosophy, the advantages of MPI's internationally recognized educational quality, and the spirit of“local education serving the Macao community”. Although Macao's economy is undergoing a period of adjustment and it may take the graduates a little longer to find a job, MPI graduates' job satisfaction and prospects of their working in a job related to their major have improved significantly, thanks to various industries' support and their recognition of the quality of MPI graduates and MPI's success in running the Schools and system for teaching quality assurance.

Many potential graduates and students undertook on-site job interviews and jobs registration, some participating organizations even offering resume editing services. The potential graduates expressed full confidence with respect to job opportunities, despite the challenges to the local economy, thanks to the broad self-enhancement they had achieved after their four years of studying at MPI. Many of the future graduates also believed that they could get a job to bring their talents into full play after acquiring more information about the development of the employment situation. Others expressed the view that, although they were several months away from graduation, they hoped to gain better career planning skills by enhancing their job competitiveness and self-confidence through participating in different career talks so as to have a better understanding of business culture, job requirements and interview skills.。
