Public

|
Enquiries: Please call (853)5996149
Ms.Hong or (853)5996111
Ms.Tam
|
1.
|
What is Public Administration?
Public administration is an applied social science subject originating from Political
Science. It deals with the theory and practice of government, and equips you
with the basic knowledge and skills essential to public service. Public Administration
differs from Business Management not so much in theory as in the sector they
serve, with the former serving the public sector and the latter, the private
sector. |
2.
|
What kind of programme does MPI offer in this
field?
Currently we only have a 2-year Diploma Programme which is offered only in the
evening. But we are planning to offer a 3-year Higher Diploma Programme. All
existing and planned programmes are offered in either Chinese or Portuguese.
Depending on the demand from society, a regular daytime session might be offered
in the future. |
3.
|
Why should I choose
MPI’s
Public Administration programme?
There are only two higher learning institutions offering
this programme in Macao, the other one being the University
of Macao. However, the UM’s programme
is more general in coverage and more international in orientation, with greater
emphasis upon theory. Our programme is more practical and regionally oriented,
and is well tailored to suit local residents seeking employment in Macao and
the neighbouring territories. |
4.
|
What are the admission requirements?
Anyone having completed the secondary education or its equivalent is eligible
to apply for admission, and there are no age limits. All you need to do is
to file an application and take a Chinese or Portuguese language proficiency
test sometime in April each year. Those who have gained some credits from other
institutions of higher learning may even transfer such credits to meet the
graduation requirement if they are identical to courses offered here. |
5.
|
What kind of students are enrolled in the programme?
Most students are already employed either in government
or in business, and work during the daytime. The majority
so far are females. But in terms of age difference,
there does not appear to be a wide range, and those in their early 20’s
have steadily made up the majority. Almost all students are Macao residents
at the moment, but we do accept applications from Hong Kong, mainland China,
and other countries. |
6.
|
How many years do I need to complete the Diploma?
Normally most students complete the programme in 2 years. But if you fail a subject
that is not offered in the immediately following semester, it may take you
one extra year to complete the degree. In case of need or financial problems,
you may also suspend your study after completing at least one semester. |

|
8.
|
What is the size and quality of the teaching
staff?
During the academic year of 2000-2001, we had 3 full-time staff and 13 part-time
staff. Most of them are Macao residents with experience in the public service.
They also possess good academic qualifications. As the programme expands, we
will engage more full-time staff in the coming years. |
9.
|
What can I do with the Diploma?
