What is the basic information about Macao Polytechnic Institute?

Established on September 16, 1991, Macao Polytechnic Institute is a public
and forward-looking institute. For just 10 years since its inception, the
Institute has grown and prospered into a modern and fully equipped teaching
and research facility with a team of experienced and dedicated academic
staff. Macao Polytechnic Institute comprises of: |

For Academic Year 2006/2007, we have
over 2,700 students enrolled on degree programmes (full-time). Currently,
there are 177 full-time teachers in MPI, including 23 Professors and
84 Associate Professors who have excellent academic background.
The Institute has trained thousands of qualified professionals since its establishment, who work in different government departments, enterprises and research units in the fields of politics, economy, culture and education in Macao. |
| Objectives and principle |
| “To stand strongly in Macao,
be supported by Motherland, facing the world, striving for the best” is
the principle of MPI. The Institute strongly believes in nurturing
talented students for a brighter future. Greatly supported by the Macao
SAR government,
the Institute continues to improve the quality of the academic team
by hiring teachers with high education qualifications and abundant
teaching
experiences. According to the development of the social economy, the
Institute also reforms and advances all programmes, building up an
all-round academic system. At
present, the major foci of the Institute is on the strengthening
of professional training for (Chinese – English / Chinese - Portuguese)
translation, business management, information technology, public administration,
medical treatment, arts and sport, etc. In recent years, comparing
with other universities and institutes, graduates of MPI have great
performance in obtaining employment and further study. |

The Institute’s library continues
to increase the capacity of books, providing reference books, professional

| Aiming to advance academic links, Macao Polytechnic Institute has established
academic collaboration with different institutions and organizations. During
recent years, we have invited noted scholars from Mainland and abroad to
evaluate our professional equipment and academic quality, which have won
their recognitions.
The Institute has reached numerous agreements on credits recognition with academic institutions in the region and overseas. As long as students or graduates meet the requirements in English subjects and have fair academic achievement, they may transfer credits and gain entry into bachelor degree or postgraduate degree courses of the following institutions: |

What are the requirements for the admission to MPI? The Institute will rank the candidates according to their achievements (dividing the score achieved from the national examination with the score standard of the second level). And the candidates’ choices are also in consideration. [Note] Candidates of Bachelor of Management (instructed by English) and Bachelor of Science in E-Commerce are required to attend the English interview (the style and arrangements will be announced in MPI’s website). |

7. Any arrangement
of student hostel offered by MPI?
The Institute’s student hostel is on shared double room basis. Each room is equipped with an air-conditioner. Shared facilities include living room, TV room, laundry room, canteen, table-tennis room, etc…. Smart cards will be issued for students living at the hostels. Fees for electricity and laundry are of the students own account. The Institute has rented other apartments for student hostel (Nan Fang Building and Hua Nan Tai Building), with 2/3 or 4 rooms and one living room. The student hostel is on shared double room basis. All student hostels are managed by respective hostel administrator. All freshmen must stay at the student hostel. From the second academic year onwards, students with a written authorization of their parents, may opt for their own accommodation in Macao. |

How much are the tuition fees and other expenses?
