|WARWICK’S APPROACH TO EMBEDDING A CULTURE OF TEACHING EXCELLENCE BASED ON EVIDENCE|
|Ms Maureen McLaughlin (Director of Education Policy & Quality, University of Warwick, United Kingdom)
Prompted in part but not wholly led by the recent development and implementation of the Teaching Excellence Framework in UK Higher Education, the University of Warwick has embraced the key principles of TEF and embedded them within our own approach to enhancing teaching and learning at the University of Warwick. This approach is data-informed but holistic in its scope, in that it takes full account not just our learning from statistical data but also the views of key external stakeholders and, most importantly, our students at all levels. The conversations we have with our academic departments are transparent and supportive: we hold ourselves to account but look for collaborative solutions to address gaps and enhance the student experience.
A graduate of Manchester University and the Institute of Education, Maureen worked in senior positions at a wide range of UK universities and abroad, including time spent as Clerk to Council at the University of the South Pacific. She has held a number of posts at the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) across two periods, most recently as Head of Universities and Standards, working to develop and deliver engagement, institutional liaison, the redevelopment of the UK Quality Code, and the development and delivery of services, events and activities for QAA’s key stakeholders in the UK and overseas.
