Abstract This paper discusses an extracurricular activity between the Computing Program of the Macao Polytechnic Institute and the Network Research Laboratory of UCLA. The purpose of this student research work program is to motivate and nurture young computer scientists to have an interest in doing research work in their study and to be engaged in school. The successful implementation of this program has led to several improvements in student motivation beyond the obvious success stories of the ones admitted to prestigious international institutions. Overall this program provides a good incentive for students to explore problems that are out of their comfort zone and it was instrumental to achieve long-lasting sense of achievement and sense of belonging in their computer education. Overall it has been seen that students who participated in this program tend to be more motivated and willing to assume responsibilities. |
