Abstract

This paper seeks to share the process and experience of the learning programme review of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI). MPI commissioned the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) to conduct a Learning Programme Review (LPR) to evaluate the Bachelor of Social Work Programme in 2016. The criteria and standards used by HKCAAVQ are aligned with international standards and HKCAAVQ's processes meet the Guidelines for Good Practice of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE). An international panel comprising six academic and professional members from Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong was formed to conduct a comprehensive review on the eleven essential criteria. As a result, the Panel recognised that MPI has an established management structure and processes, and quality assurance system to manage and continuously review the operation of the BSW Programme. Based on the evidence provided, the Panel concluded that the Programme meets the level of a Bachelor's degree programme. It is the first Bachelor Degree Programme that has attained the status of higher education academic review in Macao by HKCAAVQ. This learning programme review exercise can definitely help to promote continuous self-improvement in quality standard at both Institutional and programme level of MPI as well as to upgrade the academic and quality standard in higher education in Macao.
