“Developments in Higher Education Quality Assurance”


Symposium Notice

The rapid global development of higher educational systems in terms of widening access has meant many countries and regions are entering / have now entered a period where the focus of concern regarding tertiary institutions has switched from issues of quantity to those of quality.


To contribute to the improvement of the academic quality of tertiary education globally, it is necessary to exchange and to explore theoretical considerations and practical experiences in issues of higher education quality from the perspectives of different countries and regions. It is with this in mind that we are organizing an International Symposium on Developments in Higher Education Quality Assurance in order to disseminate and promote good practice in the quality assurance of higher education.  


You are cordially invited to participate in an International Symposium on Developments in Higher Education Quality Assurance, which is to be held in Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) from the 7th to the 11th of November, 2010. The Symposium will be hosted jointly by MPI, Hong Kong University (HKU) and the University of Macau (UM).

Symposium Themes

  1. Conceptual evolution of quality assurance in higher education from regional and historical perspectives;
  2. Issues of quality assurance, assessment and evaluation in relation to teaching undergraduate programmes;
  3. Outcome-based curriculum design, teaching, learning, assessment and quality assurance;
  4. The establishment of higher education quality assurance systems and mechanisms;
  5. The optimal exploitation of the self-evaluation / self-study processes involved in QA processes;
  6. Research concerning feedback mechanisms regarding external stake-holders.

Fee
No fee will be charged for registration or meals. Accommodation will be provided for accepted participants. Travel expenses to and from the Conference and insurance will be the responsibility of the participant.

Paper Format

Chinese Papers (Word format) should include:

  1. Paper title, author’s name, institutional affiliation, job title, academic degree, research interests, contact address, e-mail; (author’s information should be placed in a footer on the front page)
  2. Abstract: less than 300 words for both Chinese and English abstracts, with key words of less than 5 phrases for each abstract;
  3. Main Text: Words in the paper are better limited within less than 10,000 words;
  4. Main Text: Word count should not exceed 10,000 words;
  5. Font: 新細明體 (traditional) for Chinese, Times New Roman for English;
  6. Font Size: 12
  7. Spacing and Borders: Single line spacing; no art for border;
  8. Titles of tables should be placed on the top, titles of pictures should be placed underneath.
  9. Source information should be written underneath tables and pictures, font size 10.
English Papers (Word format) should include:
  1. Paper title, author’s name, work place, job title, academic degree, research field, contact address, e-mail; (author’s information should be placed in a footer on the front page)
  2. Abstract: less than 300 with key words of less than 5 phrases for each abstract;
  3. Word limit for paper: 8000 words
  4. Notes should be incorporated as footnotes, and references should be placed at the end of the main text. Arabic numerals should be used as to number the notes.
  5. Font: Times New Roman, size: 12
  6. Spacing and Borders: Single line spacing; no art for border;
  7. Titles of tables should be placed at the top, titles of pictures should be placed underneath.
  8. Source information should be written underneath tables and pictures, font size 10
