Professor Leung Cho Bun, Joe from the University of Hong Kong is a Professor of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration. He served as Head of this Department for seven years form 2001-2007.

Professor Leung is a noted expert in social welfare in China and strategic issues in social service management. His representative publications include, amongst others, “Workfare in Hong Kong” collected in Workfare in East Asia: Why Hard Working Asians have been Pushed to the Labour Market? published by Routledge (2011), “Social Capital and Community: A Review of International and Hong Kong Development” collected in Social Capital and Social Enterprises published by the City University Press (2011), and “Residential Care Services for Older People in China: From State to Market Provisions?” published by Social Development Issues (2009). In recent years, he has also provided consultancy services to an international research project titled “Asian Development Bank on a Study Project Evaluating Social Assistance Programme in China, 2010-2011”.

Professor Leung is also active in community services. He has been serving as Chair of the Hong Kong Urban Renewal Fund, Vice Chair of the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund in Hong Kong, and as a major advisor to the China Social Work Association Social Affairs Committee. Meanwhile, he has also been appointed as a Justice of the Peace, a member of the People’s Political Consultative Conference in Anhui, and as an advisor to the Social Affairs Committee of the Guangdong Party Committee.
