Quality of Teaching Receives Greater Recognition, 5,000 Local Applicants for MPI

The Macao Polytechnic Institute's application period for admission to its 2013/14 academic year undergraduate programmes has just ended. Following the trend of increasing numbers of applications over the past few years, the number this year rose again, breaking 5,000. Local secondary school students continued to give priority to MPI in their choices in selecting institutions for further education in Macao, with local secondary school principals ecommending nearly 300 students with outstanding academic achievements or other special talents.

With its student-centered philosophy of education it offers quality instruction in both theory and practical knowledge, with an emphasis on cultivating students' local and international perspectives. Teaching quality at MPI has been widely recognized within the local community and applications by local high school graduates for enrolment on its programmes has increased every year in terms of both number and quality. Committed to local education and serving the community, MPI this year received a total of over 5,000 local applications, once again becoming the most popular institution of higher learning among Macao’s secondary school graduates. There were almost 300 outstanding students recommended by secondary school principals in Macao and, following interview, 100 were admitted and will receive scholarships. To recruit a more diverse student body, MPI has launched a programme for students with special talents, in order to attract those with academic, debating, arts and sports skills and potential.

Macao Polytechnic Institute would like to thank secondary schools, parents and students in Macao for their trust and support. MPI will continue to broaden the international perspective of its students and increase avenues for international exchanges for them, so that its graduates can better serve the needs arising from Macao's social 

and economic development, and enjoy more opportunities to further their studies. With respect to its teaching role, MPI will continue to improve the quality of its provision to educate students whose talents will benefit the community and will strive for excellence in academic accreditation as, for example, is the case with its Computing Programme having recently been accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) UK.
