Opening the door to success Macao Polytechnic Institute 2020 Open Day Kicks off on Saturday

On Saturday, 4 January, the Macao Polytechnic Institute will kick off its annual Open Day on its main campus on Gomes Street featuring a wide array of activities. These activities offer a great opportunity for senior high school students, social elites and the general public to further understand MPI’s educational philosophy, teaching and research capabilities, scientific and creative development, and its academic programs via various formats including lectures, demonstrations, first-hand experience, talent show performances and booth games. In particular, these activities will provide a comprehensive overview of MPI’s campus facilities, courses, teaching and research achievements to the graduating high school students and other young people aspiring to apply to enrol in MPI’s programs, as well as clear guidelines for the application process.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, MPI is enrolling students in more than 20 undergraduate degree programs in seven major areas. These span Business and Management courses such as Sino-Lusophone Economic Trade Relations, Accounting, Management, E-Commerce, Marketing, Gaming and Recreation Management; Information Technology courses including Computing; Language and Translation courses, such as Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpretation, Chinese-English Translation and Interpretation, International Chinese Language Education, Portuguese Language; Arts courses in Design, Visual Art and Music; Sports courses (Physical Education); Public Management courses, such as Public Administration (Chinese / Portuguese) and Social Work; Health Sciences courses in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Pharmaceutical Technology. Applications are open until January 17, 2020.

In addition, nine postgraduate programs of Macao Polytechnic Institute are also open for application, including Computer Applied Technology, Portuguese Studies, Public Policy, Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpreting, Big Data and the Internet of Things, Business Administration in Gaming Management, Interdisciplinary Arts, Sports and Physical Education, and Nursing. Applications for these are open until February 28, 2020.

There will be an opening ceremony on the Open Day, followed by guided campus tours, undergraduate and postgraduate course presentations, entrance consultation services, scientific and creative experiences, physical fitness testing, art workshops, nursing operations, experimental demonstrations, skill performances and interaction, as well as library and exhibition visits. Interested people are encouraged to visit the course exhibition in the Chi Un Building, the scientific achievement exhibition of ‘Onda Solare Emilia 4’ solar car, and the thematic exhibitions at the MPI library in the Wui Chi Building on campus before the registration date.

The graphic and installation design of the Open Day has been created by Au Chon Hin, an alumnus of MPI’s Design program who has won the 17th Young Guns International Youth Design Award. With the theme of "The Gateway to the World opens with MPI", the Open Day showcases the vitality, enterprise and innovative features of the alma mater. The 17th Young Guns International Youth Design Grand Prix attracted hundreds of participants from 45 countries; Au Chon Hin and former MPI graduate Si Nga Ian are the only entrants from Macao to have won this Grand Prix, along with many other International and Asia-wide awards. On Opening Day, they will share their learning experience at MPI and their journey towards the world stage.
